2,375,932 ZEC backed the halving schedule
CoinDesk reported on October 20, 2026, that Zcash holders voted 2,375,932 ZEC to 22,385 to keep the four-year halving schedule. The vote used an encrypted blockchain that weighted ballots by ZEC without revealing individual answers or balances.
The same report said the vote was the largest on record by voting weight and that five independent engineering teams built the NU7 upgrade around the result. The decision keeps Zcash's issuance reductions in place as the network prepares a separate change to transaction processing.
NU7 targets 25-second blocks for November 5
NU7 is designed to cut the interval between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Blocks are batches of transactions added to the blockchain, so the change would reduce the time needed for three confirmations from nearly four minutes to about 75 seconds, according to CoinDesk on October 21, 2026.
The report said NU7 is planned for activation at block 3,543,405, around November 5, 2026. It also said the upgrade would temporarily remove 60 percent of block fees from circulation and disable Zcash's original Sprout privacy system. Funds remaining in that system at activation would become unspendable, making the upgrade relevant to affected holders and infrastructure providers.
Spot Zcash exchange-traded funds recorded a 15.2 million USD net inflow on October 21, 2026, according to Crypto ETF Today. The same data set lists a 10.4 million USD outflow on October 19, 2026, showing different daily flow readings within the same week.
