- The group is also developing a specialised Bridge campus in Gqeberha for a January 2028 opening.
ADvTECH announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, that it had acquired a 25 percent stake in education technology company MathU. The partnership gives the South African education group a seat on MathU's board and exclusive rights to its current and future AI-enhanced education solutions, according to Moneyweb.
Technology moves closer to classrooms
MathU's platform has been used across ADvTECH's Schools Division since 2023 under the Advlearn brand. It currently provides personalised learning in mathematics and physical science, while English is scheduled to be added. The transaction value was not disclosed.
MathU chief executive WA Burger said the partnership would support the development and wider reach of new digital tools. ADvTECH chief executive Geoff Whyte said the arrangement combines the group's education expertise with technology intended to improve learning outcomes at scale.
The partnership also includes MathU Society, a social-impact initiative that provides mathematics and science support to students in underserved communities. For investors, the deal broadens ADvTECH's exposure beyond traditional school and tertiary operations, although the financial contribution of the investment has not been disclosed.
Specialised education remains another growth path
ADvTECH has also acquired the St George's School property in Gqeberha for the first Eastern Cape campus of The Bridge School. The site is planned to open as The Bridge St George's in January 2028, with capacity for 450 students and a focus on assisted learning for neurodivergent children. Development work and specialist staffing are planned from 2027.
Private education across African markets
ADvTECH operates private schools and higher-education institutions across Africa, with brands including Crawford International, The Bridge, Trinityhouse, Makini Schools, Emeris and Rosebank International University College. Its corporate website describes private education as the core of the business and lists school, tertiary education and recruitment brands.
The group competes with other private education operators such as Curro in schools and Stadio in higher education. ADvTECH's position is differentiated by its combination of basic education, tertiary education, specialised learning and recruitment services across several African markets.
