- Festive and wedding demand are expected to support Asian Paints in the December quarter.
- Input-cost inflation and competitive pressure remain the main risks to profitability.
- The Dahej integration project could strengthen supply security and margins as utilisation rises.
Asian Paints is entering the December quarter with a mixed operating outlook: festive and wedding demand could support decorative-paint volumes, while higher input costs and intense competition continue to weigh on profitability. The assessment comes from an ICICI Securities results update published by DSIJ on October 30, 2026.
Festive Demand Supports Volume Outlook
Management expects volume growth of 8-9 percent in Q3FY27, supported by seasonal demand and weddings. India decorative volume grew 6.4 percent year over year in Q2FY27, while industrial coatings recorded 31.8 percent value growth.
Consolidated revenue increased 16.9 percent year over year in Q2FY27, but EBITDA rose only 3.6 percent and adjusted profit after tax gained 7.7 percent. Gross margin fell by 347 basis points to 39.7 percent as raw-material inflation affected the quarter.
Pricing And Costs Shape Margins
Asian Paints has implemented domestic decorative price increases of about 12 percent since Q4FY26 and announced a further 3.5 percent increase for November 2026. Management expects gross margin of 41-43 percent and retained its FY27 EBITDA-margin guidance of 18-20 percent.
The company is also assessing alternative titanium dioxide grades and formulations after an anti-dumping duty introduced in October. Calibrated price increases, sourcing efficiencies and cost optimisation are intended to limit the impact without weakening consumer demand.
Dahej Project Adds A Longer-Term Lever
Phase 1 of the Dahej VAM-VAE project was commissioned in September 2026 with annual VAE capacity of 150,000 metric tons. Phase 2, which includes 100,000 metric tons of VAM capacity, remains under development. ICICI Securities expects the integrated project to improve supply security and potentially lift margins as utilisation increases.
The broker maintained an ADD recommendation and a target price of INR 2,600 in its October 30 update. Its principal risks are commodity-cost inflation, intense competition and weaker-than-expected adoption of new products.
