- XP expects revenue to rise modestly as higher tuition and improving re-enrollment partly offset weaker distance-learning intake.
- Adjusted EBITDA margin is forecast to remain resilient despite operating deleverage and higher credit-loss provisions.
- Sector analysts expect Cruzeiro do Sul and Cogna to rank among the weaker third-quarter performers, while Ânima and Vitru are seen more favorably.
On October 23, updated October 30, XP Investimentos described Cruzeiro do Sul's third quarter as potentially weak, but said underlying profitability should remain resilient. The brokerage expects revenue to increase 1.1% year over year, supported by higher tuition and better re-enrollment trends, while continued weakness in distance-learning intake limits growth.
Margins cushion softer demand
XP forecasts an adjusted EBITDA margin of 39.5%, only 54 basis points below the third quarter of 2025. The comparison excludes the effect of changes to the company's provision methodology for doubtful accounts, with provisions expected to represent 6.2% of revenue, compared with a positive 1.6% impact in the year-earlier period.
Adjusted net income is projected at 113 million Brazilian reais, broadly stable from a year earlier. Cash generation is forecast at 160 million Brazilian reais, below 221 million Brazilian reais in the third quarter of 2025. The estimates point to a quarter in which pricing and retention may partly offset pressure on student volumes, while cash conversion remains a key investor focus.
Education sector faces uneven demand
A broader sector assessment reported by Estadão said analysts at BTG Pactual expected a difficult third quarter for Brazilian education companies. Cogna and Cruzeiro do Sul were expected to be among the weaker performers, while Ânima and Vitru were projected to show better relative results. Analysts cited tougher comparisons, slower enrollment growth and limited pricing power among new students.
The outlook leaves the next results release as an important test of whether higher-value programs, re-enrollment and cost control can compensate for the softer distance-learning pipeline. Investors will also be watching provisions and cash generation, since both can alter the quality of reported profit.
Company profile and competitive position
Cruzeiro do Sul Educacional operates higher-education brands through university centers, universities and colleges, with both in-person and distance-learning formats. Its portfolio also includes medical education capacity and a network of distance-learning hubs. In the sector comparison reported by Estadão, Cruzeiro do Sul was positioned alongside Cogna as a weaker expected third-quarter performer, while Ânima and Vitru occupied the stronger side of the forecast.
