- Moody's moved Danaos' corporate-family-rating outlook to positive and upgraded its senior unsecured notes to Ba1.
- The rating action cited revenue visibility, cash balances, financial discipline and long-term charter coverage.
- Danaos operates a large containership fleet and also has dry bulk exposure.
Danaos Corporation said on October 26, 2026, that Moody's Ratings had changed the outlook on its Ba1 Corporate Family Rating to positive from stable and upgraded its senior unsecured notes to Ba1 from Ba2. The company described the action in a Danaos Corporation investor release.
Credit Outlook Turns Positive
Moody's attributed the outlook change to higher revenue visibility, substantial cash balances and continued financial discipline. The rating agency also cited Danaos' long-term, fixed-rate charter portfolio, positive free cash flow track record and focus on reducing debt ahead of shareholder distributions.
As of June 30, 2026, Danaos had contracted revenue of approximately 4.6 billion US dollars, with an average remaining charter duration of 4.7 years. Cash stood at approximately 1.0 billion US dollars at that date, according to the company release.
Shipping Portfolio Supports Visibility
Danaos' contracted charter base provides a degree of revenue visibility even if charter-market conditions weaken. That does not remove exposure to shipping cycles, but fixed-rate contracts can moderate the effect of short-term market swings on operating cash flow.
The real-time quote of Danaos stock was 135.60 euros on Lang & Schwarz at 23:00 CET on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
