- The internal program focuses on steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease after stem cell transplantation.
- Evogene says ChemPass AI generated novel small-molecule candidates with optimized properties in several months.
- The company plans to advance its lead series toward IND-enabling studies.
Evogene has selected acute graft-versus-host disease, or aGVHD, as the target indication for an internal AI-driven drug-discovery program. The company announced the decision on October 28, 2026, in a PR Newswire release.
A new focus for ChemPass AI
The program is aimed at developing a potential first-in-class small-molecule therapy for patients whose aGVHD does not respond to steroid treatment after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Evogene describes aGVHD as a serious and potentially life-threatening complication, with limited treatment options for steroid-refractory cases.
According to the company, its ChemPass AI platform has explored more than 110 billion virtual molecules. Evogene says it has generated a diverse series of novel, patentable candidates with new chemical scaffolds, nanomolar potency, target selectivity, and favorable absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicology profiles. These are company-reported development characteristics, not clinical efficacy results.
Development remains at an early stage
The program is guided by Dr. Corey Cutler of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Prof. Dr. Robert Zeiser of University Medical Center Freiburg. Evogene plans to advance its lead series toward IND-enabling studies, which are intended to support a future application to begin human testing.
The announcement therefore expands Evogene's internally developed therapeutic pipeline, but it does not represent a clinical-stage approval or proof of efficacy. The company also cautions in the release that statements about future development and potential therapeutic benefits are forward-looking.
