- Electricity sales revenue rose 8.6% to KES 238.24 billion in the year ended June 2026.
- Government and county electricity arrears reached KES 7.35 billion, adding to collection and cash-flow pressure.
- Kenya Power increased its annual dividend per share to KES 1.50.
Kenya Power & Lighting Company reported profit after tax of KES 24.99 billion for the financial year ended June 2026, up 2.1% from the previous year. The result and related operating figures were reported by Business Daily on October 12, 2026.
Revenue growth meets collection pressure
Electricity sales revenue increased 8.6% to KES 238.24 billion during the year. The improvement came as the utility continued to serve Kenya's electricity market, but the financial picture also includes a significant receivables burden.
Unpaid electricity bills owed by national and county governments rose 9.5% to KES 7.35 billion in the year to June 2026. Business Daily said the balance represented 17.7% of Kenya Power's gross postpaid electricity receivables of KES 41.5 billion at the end of the period.
Why receivables matter for investors
Delayed payments can constrain cash flow because Kenya Power must continue buying electricity, maintaining its distribution network and funding infrastructure investment. The company said it was engaging government and other relevant entities to accelerate recovery of long-outstanding receivables.
Government entities also owed KES 35.35 billion for recurrent losses under the Rural Electrification Scheme. That balance is separate from unpaid electricity consumed by state agencies and county governments, making the two obligations important to distinguish when assessing the utility's financial position.
Dividend and ownership context
Kenya Power raised its dividend per share to KES 1.50 from KES 1.00, according to the report. The company is majority-owned by the government, which held a 50.1% stake, while private investors owned the remainder.
