- International sales declined as the China rollout and shipments to other Asian markets took longer than planned.
- Domestic sales and direct-to-consumer activity grew, while global travel retail remained a bright spot.
- Management plans to align marketing investment in China with a sustainable earnings balance.
Lark Distilling's first-quarter sales declined as international shipments were delayed, while domestic channels continued to expand. Inside FMCG reported on October 29 that the Tasmanian whisky producer told investors sales for the three months ended September 30 totaled AUD 3.5 million, down 4.5 percent year over year.
Export Timing Weighs On Growth
Lark said the decline reflected the timing of international orders. International sales fell 37.7 percent to AUD 600,000, with the company citing the onboarding of a new distributor in China and delayed replenishment shipments in other Asian markets.
Domestic net sales rose 7.9 percent to AUD 2.9 million. Direct-to-consumer sales increased 16.4 percent, led by hospitality and online channels, while business-to-business sales fell 7.5 percent after a strong finish to the prior financial year.
Travel Retail Provides Support
Global Travel Retail remained a positive area, with sales increasing 32.3 percent to AUD 600,000. Lark said new distribution points, including Singapore's Changi Airport, supported the channel.
Chief Executive Stuart Gregor said the company would continue to align its marketing investment in China to balance growth with earnings. The update leaves international execution and distributor onboarding as key near-term factors for investors.
