Limuru Tea PLC has appointed Advocate Leila Chebet as its new company secretary, effective October 8, 2026. The board announcement was reported by Khusoko on October 22.

Leadership change follows resignation

Chebet succeeds Janet Akoth Ocholla, whose resignation took effect on September 24. Ocholla had held the position since April, after Angela Namwakira left the role. The board thanked Ocholla for her service and welcomed Chebet to the company.

According to the report, the appointment notice was signed by board chair Dorcas Muli and issued under Kenya's Capital Markets (Public Offers, Listings and Disclosures) Regulations, 2023. Chebet is an Advocate of the High Court and a Certified Secretary, with experience spanning corporate governance, legal advisory work, regulatory compliance and board processes.

Operational backdrop remains mixed

The governance change comes against a mixed operating backdrop. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, revenue rose to KSh69.91 million from KSh56.84 million a year earlier, while made-tea production increased to 492 tonnes. The company nevertheless reported a pre-tax loss of KSh21.14 million, although the loss was described as an improvement from the prior-year period.

Limuru Tea's results remain exposed to tea output, labour costs and prices achieved at the Mombasa Tea Auction. The appointment therefore adds a governance development while the business continues working to convert stronger production and revenue into sustainable profitability.
