Macronix stock: Q3 profit hits record as NAND shift accelerates

- Macronix reported record third-quarter profit and an all-time-high gross margin.
- Management expects near-term growth to come mainly from price increases rather than added capacity.
- New investment is aimed at eMMC and 3D NAND, while NOR output is being directed toward higher-value applications.
Macronix International reported a record net profit for the third quarter on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, as stronger pricing and demand lifted its non-volatile memory business. Taipei Times reported that net profit reached NT$10.95 billion, up from NT$7.74 billion in the second quarter and reversing a loss of NT$862 million a year earlier.
Pricing supports near-term growth
Gross margin climbed to a record 70.5 percent from 64.4 percent in the previous quarter and 13.5 percent a year earlier. Chairman Miin Wu said Macronix does not expect capacity expansion to drive rapid growth in the short term. Instead, higher chip prices are expected to remain the main near-term growth engine as supply remains constrained and demand for artificial intelligence memory stays strong.
The company plans to begin increasing output in the second half of 2027, supported by first-phase capital expenditure of NT$22 billion. A further NT$15.8 billion investment is not expected to generate additional output until 2028 because equipment deliveries have been delayed.
NAND takes a larger role
Macronix is directing new capacity toward embedded multimedia cards and 3D NAND. Management said the shift does not reflect weaker NOR demand. Instead, capacity is being reallocated to NAND, which the company sees as a longer-term expansion area. NOR production is being concentrated on higher-value applications including data centers, space communications, automotive, industrial and medical devices.
The company is also gradually phasing out ROM production, which is used in Nintendo Switch game consoles. The strategy leaves Macronix more exposed to memory pricing and execution in NAND, while preserving a focus on specialized NOR applications.
Macronix business and market position
Macronix is a Taiwan-based integrated device manufacturer focused on non-volatile memory. It produces NOR Flash, NAND Flash and ROM products for consumer, communication, computing, industrial, automotive and networking markets. The company operates wafer fabrication facilities in Hsinchu and serves a more specialized memory niche than broad-based manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology.
