- Itaú BBA upgraded Magazine Luiza to Outperform and raised its 2027 target.
- The brokerage sees lower interest rates and market-share gains as key drivers.
- Execution, cash generation and competition remain central risks for the recovery case.
Itaú BBA raised its recommendation on Magazine Luiza stock from Market Perform to Outperform and lifted its target from BRL 10 for the end of 2026 to BRL 16 for the end of 2027. Investing.com reported the change on October 13, citing Itaú BBA analysts Rodrigo Gastim, Vinicius Pretto and Victor Rogatis.
Lower Rates Drive The Thesis
The brokerage estimates that each one-percentage-point decline in the interest-rate curve would lift Magazine Luiza's estimated earnings per share by 11%. Itaú BBA said the first leg of the rate-driven move is already reflected in the shares, while further relief and operational improvement are not.
Competition is another part of the revised case. The report points to the judicial recovery of Casas Bahia and store closures as an opportunity for Magazine Luiza to capture demand, while its own online sales and newer marketplace activity add further growth channels.
Growth Comes With Execution Risk
Itaú BBA estimates that market-share gains, recovering direct online sales and sales through Mercado Livre and Amazon could add BRL 7.5 billion to annual revenue in 2027. Applying an incremental EBITDA margin of 8.5%, the analysts estimate a potential BRL 300 million contribution to net income.
The forecast revision was mixed. Itaú BBA cut its 2026 adjusted EBITDA estimate by 10.2% and its operating-profit estimate by 15.7%, while raising its 2027 revenue forecast by 6.6% to BRL 45.4 billion and its net-income estimate from BRL 266 million to BRL 776 million. The brokerage still described the longer-term view as structurally challenging because competition has intensified.
Business And Competitive Position
Magazine Luiza is a Brazilian omnichannel retailer operating physical stores, its own online business and marketplace channels. Its offering spans retail sales across stores and digital platforms, with additional distribution through marketplaces such as Mercado Livre and Amazon. The company competes directly with Casas Bahia in Brazilian retail, while Mercado Livre and Amazon represent larger digital-platform competitors; Magazine Luiza's position is more closely tied to the combination of stores and online channels.
