- Nongshim is broadening Shin Ramyun beyond broth-based products for overseas consumers.
- Management is using localized flavors and artificial intelligence in product development.
- The strategy is designed to strengthen distribution and international sales over the coming years.
Nongshim is broadening its global Shin Ramyun strategy with stir-fried noodles and locally adapted flavors, as CEO Jo Yong-chul outlined at the SIAL Paris food exhibition on October 19. The Chosun Daily reported on October 28 that the company intends to use product diversification to reach consumers in North America and Europe.
Shin Ramyun broadens its appeal
Jo said Nongshim would more actively release stir-fried noodle products alongside its traditional broth-based range. Shin Ramyun Tomba, with a spicy cream pasta profile, and Shin Ramyun Rose, combining tomato sauce with gochujang, are examples of the approach. The company is also applying artificial intelligence to analyze country-specific preferences and develop seasonings and sauces for local tastes.
The international push extends beyond product design. Jo said Nongshim is seeking stronger placement for Shin Ramyun in mainstream overseas retail areas rather than limiting the brand to Asian-food sections. The company is also discussing combinations of Shin Ramyun products with other Korean food categories in British retail.
Overseas sales remain strategic focus
Shin Ramyun's overseas sales share reached 66 percent last year, according to The Chosun Daily. Nongshim's overall overseas sales ratio was described as 40 percent, with management targeting 60 percent by 2030. That goal puts distribution, product localization and brand visibility at the center of the company's medium-term growth strategy.
Nongshim's business and market position
Nongshim is a South Korean packaged-foods company headquartered in Seoul. It manufactures and distributes instant noodles, snacks and beverages, including Shin Ramyun, while also importing and distributing selected international food brands across markets such as South Korea, China, the United States, Japan, Canada, Australia and Vietnam. Its broad product portfolio and established Shin Ramyun brand give it a specialized position in Asian instant foods, with international expansion providing the main strategic growth avenue described by management.
