Transelectrica is advancing two major electricity-transmission projects in northern Romania, according to The Diplomat Bucharest. In a report published on October 21, the company said construction preparations for the Romanian section of the 400 kV Suceava-B?l?i overhead line were progressing, while landowners had begun receiving expropriation notices for the 400 kV G?d?lin-Suceava corridor.
The Suceava-B?l?i project will connect Romania's power system with the Republic of Moldova and extend 93.3 kilometres on Romanian territory. Preliminary stages have been completed and the building-permit process is underway, allowing construction to begin by early 2027 at the latest. The project has a contract value of RON 133.4 million excluding VAT.
Grid expansion targets regional capacity
The G?d?lin-Suceava line is planned to span approximately 260 kilometres across Cluj, Bistri?a-N?s?ud and Suceava. It is intended to strengthen the 400 kV transmission loop in northern Romania and provide additional capacity for electricity generated by wind farms in Moldova and Dobrogea.
The project has received RON 492,452,329.63 in non-reimbursable Modernisation Fund support. Its contract, signed in August 2025, is worth RON 688.3 million excluding VAT and has a scheduled implementation period of 69 months. Notifications to affected landowners mark a further step before construction can proceed.
