Experiences growth loses momentum
The Experiences segment generated 284.8 million US dollars in revenue, down 3 percent from the year-earlier quarter. Experience bookings increased approximately 2 percent to 6.8 million, while gross bookings value was approximately flat at 1.3 billion US dollars. Adjusted EBITDA declined to 38.2 million US dollars, reducing the segment margin to 13.4 percent.
Hotels and Other remained the larger pressure point. Revenue fell 23 percent to 151.6 million US dollars, including a 23 percent decline in hotel revenue to 109.7 million US dollars and a 23 percent drop in media and advertising revenue to 27.7 million US dollars. Segment adjusted EBITDA fell to 32.9 million US dollars from 55.4 million US dollars a year earlier.
Sale proceeds reshape the balance sheet
Tripadvisor completed the sale of TheFork to American Express on November 1 and received approximately 741.0 million US dollars in net cash consideration after customary adjustments and transaction costs. Management said it currently expects to prioritize reducing long-term debt, although it retains flexibility over the proceeds.
The company also recognized a 369.5 million US dollar goodwill impairment in Hotels and Other. Operating cash flow from continuing operations was negative 122.0 million US dollars in the quarter, while cash and cash equivalents stood at 706.8 million US dollars at September 30, before the TheFork proceeds.
Restructuring and leadership transition
Tripadvisor initiated a restructuring plan on November 4 aimed at simplifying Hotels and Other and accelerating selected investment in Experiences. The company expects annualized gross savings of approximately 40 million US dollars and restructuring costs of 15 million to 20 million US dollars, primarily in the fourth quarter.
The company also announced management changes around the results release. Chief Executive Officer Matt Goldberg is scheduled to leave on February 16, 2027, while Chief Financial Officer Michael Noonan plans to resign on December 31, 2026. Kristen Dalton is scheduled to become interim CFO on January 1, 2027.
