- Vulcan Steel's first-quarter FY27 revenue and EBITDA increased year over year, supported by higher volumes and Roofing Industries.
- Net debt declined at the end of September, while management continued to focus on margin improvement and integration.
- The company expects to publish its FY27 half-year results in mid-February 2027.
Vulcan Steel stock slipped 3.3% on Friday, October 30, 2026, in Sydney. The company's investor page showed a price of AUD 5.55 at 4:00 p.m. Sydney time, down AUD 0.19 on the session. The move followed a period in which investors had focused on stronger operating figures from the first quarter of fiscal 2027.
In an October 21 analysis, Kapitales Research said first-quarter revenue rose 39 percent year over year to NZD 353.7 million. EBITDA increased 51 percent to NZD 44.8 million, while sales volumes climbed 25 percent to 73,500 tonnes. The roofing business contributed NZD 9.1 million to quarterly EBITDA.
Growth comes with execution demands
Vulcan Steel also reduced net debt to NZD 216 million at September 30 from NZD 227 million at June 30, according to the same analysis. Management is pursuing organic growth through customer service and margin improvement while investing in Roofing Industries and its hybrid-site network.
The operating backdrop remains mixed. Improving business confidence, construction activity and exports support the New Zealand outlook, while higher interest rates and household expenses may constrain Australian demand. Inflation, energy costs and global uncertainty remain additional risks for industrial suppliers.
The company expects to release its FY27 half-year results in mid-February 2027. That update should give investors a clearer view of whether stronger volumes and the roofing acquisition are translating into sustained margin gains.
Regional metals distributor
Vulcan distributes carbon steel, plate, coil, stainless steel and engineering steel across Australia and New Zealand. It also provides roll-forming, folding, water-goods and processing services through 80 facilities and three divisions covering steel, metals and steel roll-forming and folding. The company competes with regional suppliers including BlueScope, InfraBuild and Steel & Tube, while its position is centered on distribution, processing and customer service rather than primary steel production. Vulcan employs more than 1,650 people and is headquartered in Australasia.
