As AI Regulation Takes Effect, Germany's Training Programs Shift to Compliance and Digital Mastery

Professional development programs for German managers and specialists in mid-2026 are pivoting hard toward legal compliance, digital tooling and long-term credentials. The most immediate driver: the European Union’s AI regulation, which is forcing companies to re?educate staff on data protection, liability and permissible use of artificial intelligence.

The Mittelstand-Digital Zentrum Handel, a SME support network, has scheduled a mid?July webinar on the legal framework surrounding AI. Markus von Hohenhau, a lawyer specializing in IT law, will cover the AI Regulation, data privacy rules and liability questions. Separately, the Haus der Bauwirtschaft in Hannover is offering free workshops aimed at making the technology practical for construction trades. Office?workers aren’t left out: the Volkshochschule in Herzberg runs a mid?July intensive week on Office applications and digital self?organization. Trainers from Confex Training GmbH note that modern analysis tools such as Excel and Power BI, paired with AI, can “dramatically increase workflow efficiency.”

Beyond one?off workshops, a clear trend toward sustained qualification is emerging. The OTH Regensburg is holding information sessions in July on part?time degree programs and microcredentials in mediation, business administration and social work. A nine?month course to become a systemic business coach starts in October, blending in?person workshops with online modules. In banking, the Forum Institut offers specialized seminars on the Payment Services Law 2026, risk management under the EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), and anti?money laundering — all targeting legal and audit professionals.

Technical and management training is also prominent. In early July the VDI Wissensforum held seminars in Düsseldorf and online covering claim management, knowledge management and cost control for engineers. The Rheinische Akademie in Cologne is promoting further?training paths to become a state?certified technician in civil engineering, electrical or mechanical engineering. A joint program between FH Münster and the BWI?Bau enables a part?time master’s degree in construction law across the building lifecycle; the eleventh cohort begins in the winter semester 2026/2027 with a July 24 application deadline.

Further down the management track, the Kreisvolkshochschule Landkreis Harburg offers a five?day educational leave course on controlling, teaching the basics of corporate goals and key performance indicators. The Landgard Foundation is running its tenth certificate course for business administrators in production horticulture; applications close August 11.

The health and social?care sector is adapting too. The German Nutrition Society (DGE) has scheduled seminars on dietary counseling for drug addiction, updates on food safety and diabetes therapy — with participants in North Rhine?Westphalia eligible for the Bildungsscheck NRW subsidy. A microbiology course in Essen in mid?July covers cryobanking and pathogen cultivation for lab staff. For educators, the VHS in the Leipzig district offers training from late August on designing learning spaces, animal?assisted pedagogy and gender?diversity issues.
