AST SpaceMobile’s Carrier Alliances Strengthen, Yet Delayed Launches and Insider Moves Cast a Shadow

AST SpaceMobile is no longer just a speculative bet on connecting smartphones from orbit. The company is being pulled into the mainstream telecom infrastructure playbook, with carriers on both sides of the Atlantic moving to integrate its satellite technology into their networks. But even as strategic partnerships deepen, operational hiccups and insider transactions are testing investor patience.
Vodafone has thrown its weight behind the satellite pioneer, forming the joint venture Satellite Connect Europe with AST. The initiative is designed to give European mobile operators blanket satellite coverage, and Vodafone Spain has already signed a commercial contract for remote areas and emergency services. Across the Atlantic, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have been planning a joint venture since May to close mobile dead zones via multiple satellite providers. AST publicly welcomed the US consortium, and AT&T has indicated it will continue working with the company. The shift is clear: AST is morphing from a consumer-facing brand into a wholesale network layer for the telecom incumbents.
That strategic evolution, however, is unfolding against a backdrop of operational delays that are rattling the stock. Barclays cut its price target on AST from $65 to $60 and maintained an “Underweight” rating, citing postponed rocket launches and an unfavorable risk-reward balance in coming months. The shares, which hit a record €114.60 in May, have fallen roughly 32% from that peak. The stock recently traded at €77.50 in the wake of the Barclays note and later at €75.90, hovering just above its 50-day moving average. Annualized volatility has exceeded 130%, reflecting the market’s frayed nerves.

The management is pressing ahead with the expansion of the BlueBird satellite constellation, but without reliable launch dates for the next missions, the stock appears stuck in a high-volatility trap.
The average analyst price target now stands at €71.45, signaling that the market is already pricing in a good deal of future success and regulatory progress. With a €24.32 billion market capitalization, AST is no moonshot micro-cap — it is a fully valued enterprise that must now prove it can execute on its deployment schedule while navigating the power dynamics of a telecom world where carriers control the customer relationship. The real story for the stock going forward is no longer about whether the technology works; it is about whether AST can become an indispensable supplier without getting squeezed by the very partners who make mass adoption possible. That tension is the market’s new reality.
