Burberry stock steadies as investors weigh weak first quarter and turnaround plan
Published on 07/17/2026 at 07:41 | Editorial responsibility: Rafael Müller, Editor-in-Chief AD HOC NEWSBurberry stock has been trading in a subdued range in recent weeks after a sharp repricing that followed the companys warning in May 2024 that profit for fiscal 2024/25 would be significantly lower than previously expected as demand for luxury goods softened and its own brand repositioning weighed on sales.
Sales slip 21 percent in first quarter
According to Burberry Group plc, the British luxury house reported that comparable store sales fell by about 21 percent year on year in the 13 weeks to 29 June 2024, reflecting weaker demand in both the Americas and Asia and a slower performance in Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa.
The company indicated that total retail revenue for this first quarter of fiscal 2024/25 was materially below the prior year period, when it had benefited from a recovery in travel related spending and stronger demand for its core handbags and outerwear lines.
Operating profit dropped around 34 percent
In its prior full fiscal year, which ended on 30 March 2024, Burberry disclosed that adjusted operating profit fell by roughly 34 percent to about GBP 418 million from around GBP 634 million in the previous year as slower sales growth, higher operating costs and continued investment in brand elevation compressed margins.
Over the same period Burberry generated total revenue of approximately GBP 3.1 billion, only slightly above the prior years level, so the drop in profitability was driven much more by margin pressure than by absolute top line contraction.

Key figures from recent results and future earnings dates help investors assess how Burberrys strategy and cost measures may influence the stock over the coming quarters.
Trenches coat franchise remains central
Burberrys heritage trench coat franchise and wider outerwear offer remain central to its commercial strategy, with management emphasizing in its recent updates that outerwear and leather goods should together represent a larger share of revenue over the next few years as the brand aims to move its mix further upmarket.
Burberry stock and market context
Burberry shares trade on the London Stock Exchange in pounds sterling, and over the past year the stock has lagged broader UK equity indices as investors have recalibrated expectations following the combination of weaker luxury demand and company specific execution risk.
