BYD is countering a slide in sales and a stock near its 52-week low with a barrage of new products and infrastructure. The Chinese electric-vehicle giant has unveiled two major SUV launches — the all-electric Great Tang and the plug-in hybrid Denza N8L — while simultaneously announcing a next-generation charging system that can add 400 kilometres of range in five minutes.

The Great Tang, a flagship SUV priced from around $35,500, has already racked up 150,000 pre-orders in China before its official launch. Built on a 1,000-volt architecture, the vehicle carries a 130-kWh battery and boasts a range of up to 950 kilometres under China's CLTC cycle. BYD says the model is designed to take full advantage of new megawatt flash-charging technology.

That technology, dubbed “Megawatt Flash Charging” second-generation, delivers a peak charging power of 1,500 kW using a 1,000-volt/1,000-amp system. BYD plans to roll it out initially in Malaysia, with installations in showrooms and service centres before expanding through third-party partners. The company claims compatible vehicles can charge from 10% to 70% in roughly five minutes, translating to about 400 kilometres of range.

At the same time, BYD's premium Denza brand is fighting for revival with the N8L, a six-seat plug-in hybrid SUV offered at a sharp discount. The base version starts at just under 320,000 yuan — well below its earlier pre-sale price — as BYD seeks to stimulate demand. The N8L combines a high-voltage architecture with BYD's blade battery, enabling a 10-70% charge in five minutes at dedicated stations and a combined range of around 1,500 kilometres.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying BYD?

The product blitz comes as Denza struggles. Sales of the premium marque slumped nearly 28% in the first five months of the year, despite a slight uptick in May. Overall, BYD sold about 1.4 million vehicles from January to May, down roughly 20% from the same period last year, with only robust exports cushioning the blow.

On the logistics front, BYD has signed a three-year framework agreement with Marseille-based CEVA Logistics covering six continents. The deal includes route planning, customs clearance, and low-carbon transport solutions. CEVA will manage inbound logistics for BYD's expanding factory network, after-sales service, and supply-chain management for the battery and energy storage division, marking a shift from pure vehicle exports toward a more integrated global production and distribution network.

Investors, however, remain unimpressed. The stock has shed about 16% in the past 30 days and traded at €8.56 on Wednesday, a fraction above its 52-week low of €8.37. At that level, it is 42% below the July 2025 peak of €14.80. The 14-day relative strength index has fallen to 21, a deeply oversold reading, while another calculation places it at 23.4, confirming extreme selling pressure. The share price also remains well below both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages.

BYD at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

BYD's strategy is clear: overwhelm the market with superior charging technology and aggressive pricing to reverse the sales decline. The next three months of Denza N8L registrations will be a key test. If the premium brand fails to stage a turnaround, the stock could slip below the €8.37 floor. Meanwhile, the company plans to showcase eight new models from its BYD, Denza, and Yangwang brands at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, hoping to shift sentiment. But the real catalyst may depend on how quickly the megawatt-charging network expands beyond Malaysia.
