Corning's stock surged more than 11% to €154.38, hitting an all-time high, as investors cheered the glass specialist's multi-year alliance with NVIDIA to supply fiber-optic infrastructure for artificial intelligence data centers. The partnership underscores the critical role optical connectivity plays in powering the next generation of AI workloads.

Under the deal, Corning plans to expand its optical connectivity manufacturing capacity in the United States tenfold, while boosting domestic fiber-optic production by over 50%. Three new facilities are slated for North Carolina and Texas, a move expected to create roughly 3,000 high-paying jobs. The expansion aligns with a broader push to reshore critical high-tech supply chains.

At an investor day in New York, Corning unveiled its extended "Springboard" growth strategy through 2030, anchored by a new photonics platform tailored to original equipment manufacturers building generative AI infrastructure. The company's optical communications segment has been a standout performer, with first-quarter core revenue climbing 18% to $4.35 billion and earnings per share reaching $0.70. Within that division, sales jumped 36%, driven by insatiable demand from hyperscale data centers and so-called "AI factories."

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Corning?

NVIDIA views the collaboration as a generational opportunity to strengthen American manufacturing through advanced optical technologies. Modern AI applications require thousands of graphics processing units to be interconnected with near-zero latency, placing enormous strain on conventional networking gear. Corning's fiber-optic solutions are designed to meet that challenge head-on.

Management has guided for second-quarter core revenue of approximately $4.6 billion, representing 14% year-over-year growth. The stock has nearly doubled since the start of 2025, reflecting mounting investor confidence in Corning's strategic pivot toward AI infrastructure. Several analysts have raised their price targets, citing long-term supply agreements with major cloud providers that solidify the company's market position.

Not everything is running smoothly. Planned maintenance and upgrades at a solar wafer facility are expected to weigh on second-quarter results by $30 million. Despite that headwind, Corning remains committed to its solar business, targeting $2.5 billion in revenue from the segment by 2028.

The board declared a quarterly dividend of $0.28 per share, payable on June 29 to shareholders of record as of May 29. With the expanded strategic roadmap now in place, Corning is betting that its optical expertise will keep it at the center of the AI infrastructure boom for years to come.
