The German blue-chip index closed last week at 24,986 points, posting a 1.42% weekly gain but failing once again to breach the psychologically important 25,000 barrier. With the benchmark trading just 2% below its January all-time high, investors are now turning their attention to a jam-packed week of economic releases that could provide the catalyst for a decisive breakout.

The European Central Bank's 25-basis-point rate hike, which lifted the deposit rate to 2.25%, barely dampened buying appetite. A peace agreement in the Middle East added extra support, yet hawkish signals from the Federal Reserve have kept a lid on upside momentum. The result is an index trapped in a narrow trading range, with the currency market adding another layer of uncertainty — the euro is currently hovering around $1.147 against a potentially strengthening dollar.

On the charts, the immediate resistance sits at 25,124 points. A clean break above that level would open the door to the upper boundary of the trend channel near 25,400, a move analysts describe as a decisive buy signal. To the downside, the first line of defense is the 24,770 support mark. Below that, the 50-day moving average at 24,511 and the 200-day line at 24,246 offer deeper cushions against a sharper pullback.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying DAX?

The coming days bring a barrage of macro data capable of shaking the DAX out of its sideways drift. Tuesday sees the first purchasing managers' indices for Germany and the eurozone, followed by the Ifo business climate index on Wednesday. Thursday is the heavyweight session: the final reading of US first-quarter GDP and, most critically, the core PCE price index — the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge.

Corporate news also looms. Nvidia holds its annual general meeting on Wednesday, while Micron Technology reports quarterly earnings the same evening. Both events often send ripples through the global technology sector, adding extra volatility for DAX-listed tech names.

Economists project the core PCE will rise 0.35% month-on-month, pushing the annual rate to 3.4%. A surprise to the upside would reignite rate fears and likely drag the DAX below the 24,770 support zone. A moderate reading, by contrast, could clear the path for a fresh assault on the record high set in January.

For now, the DAX remains in a wait-and-see pattern, with the 25,000 level acting as both a psychological barrier and a technical pivot. The direction for the rest of the week hinges squarely on Thursday's inflation print.
