Deutsche Rohstoff’s Record Output and Soaring Profits Mask a Turbulent Market

Deutsche Rohstoff's record Q1 EPS of €21.59 and raised EBITDA forecast to €300M contrast with a 35% stock drop from highs, driven by Almonty Industries' dilution and short interest surge.

Deutsche Rohstoff: Record Earnings, But Almonty Overhang Drives Stock Down

The gap between Deutsche Rohstoff’s operational performance and its share price has rarely been wider. The company lifted its 2026 EBITDA forecast to roughly €300 million in early April, up from a prior range of €115 million to €135 million, and the first-quarter results released on May 11 backed that optimism with a record earnings per share of €21.59. Yet the stock closed Friday at €76.10, having shed 11.61% over the prior 30 days and sitting 35.40% below its 52-week high of €117.80 hit on June 5.

The engine of the upgraded guidance is the U.S. drilling programme. In early June, the company reported initial output from the Dillon/Billings pad in Wyoming, the first site of the 2026 drilling campaign. Four wells there generated a combined flow of 6,000 barrels of oil per day three weeks after production start, surpassing internal expectations. New wells have been coming online since early July, adding further volumes.

Shareholders are receiving a bigger slice of that cash flow. The dividend for 2025 was raised to €2.25 per share, paid out in late June after the annual general meeting, up from €2.00 the year before. In April, shortly before the profit warning reversal, Deutsche Rohstoff also launched a share buyback programme of up to €7.5 million, running until April 2027.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Rohstoff?

But the stock’s trajectory has been complicated by the company’s investment in Almonty Industries, a tungsten miner listed in the U.S. Short interest in Almonty jumped 115.4% in the month to June 15, reaching 8.885 million shares, or 3.1% of the float. In addition, Almonty priced an oversubscribed $700 million convertible bond due 2031, a move that sent its own shares down more than 21% on the day. While the proceeds strengthen Almonty’s balance sheet for the Sangdong project, the dilution overhang weighs on the mining stock and, by extension, on Deutsche Rohstoff’s valuation. In the wallstreetONLINE community, investors are split: the oil bulls see the stock as cheap at a trailing P/E of 5.82 and a market cap of €363 million, especially while crude prices are supported by geopolitical tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. The Almonty bears caution that the volatility from that holding could overshadow the steady oil-driven profit stream.

Technically, the stock is in a tug-of-war. It still trades 9.00% above its 200-day moving average of €69.82, suggesting the medium-term uptrend remains intact. The relative strength index of 37.5 points to selling pressure but stops short of oversold territory. The year-to-date gain of 55.46% confirms that the long-term picture is far from broken, yet the recent slide from the June peak has been sharp and persistent.

For now, the market appears to be pricing in uncertainty from the Almonty position while ignoring the record operational momentum. The next major test comes on August 19, when the half-year financial report will reveal whether the first-quarter pace has been sustained. The direction of oil prices — and any further news from Almonty — will determine which of the two forces ultimately drives the stock.
