Deutsche Telekom shares caught a double tailwind on Friday, rallying more than 3.6% to close at €26.20 after a leadership overhaul at its US subsidiary T-Mobile US dovetailed with a fresh vote of confidence from JPMorgan. The Bonn-based telecoms giant saw its stock gain 3.97% over the past seven trading sessions, though longer-term performance remains deeply in the red.

New Faces at T-Mobile US as Gopalan Reshapes the Top Team

T-Mobile US is refreshing its executive ranks to prepare for the next wave of technology — artificial intelligence and 6G. Chris Sambar, a veteran of AT&T where he spearheaded the 5G rollout and the FirstNet public-safety network, will join as Chief Enterprise Officer by 14 October 2026. André Almeida steps up from his role as head of broadband and enterprise to become Chief Marketing, Brand & Broadband Officer, sharing responsibility for the consumer mobile and broadband business with COO Jon Freier.

The departures are equally notable. Mike Katz, who spent nearly three decades at T-Mobile, is leaving the company and will serve as a strategic adviser until December 2026. Chief Technology Officer John Saw is consolidating network, technology, product development and cybersecurity under a single banner, with his title unchanged. CEO Srini Gopalan — just nine months into the job — is clearly putting his stamp on the organisation.

T-Mobile US is the profit engine for Deutsche Telekom, contributing the lion’s share of group revenue. Any shifts in its leadership or strategy carry immediate weight in Frankfurt, and Friday’s move was no exception.

JPMorgan Sets a 53% Upside Target

Adding to the positive sentiment, JPMorgan analyst Akhil Dattani reaffirmed his “Overweight” rating on Deutsche Telekom with a price target of €40, implying a 53% premium to the current level. He argues that the stock is trading at a historic discount to its intrinsic value and expects double-digit earnings-per-share growth ahead. Seventeen analysts rate the shares a “Strong Buy” with a consensus target of €37.69, while Morningstar has assigned five stars and a fair value of $44 for the US-listed American Depositary Receipt.

Dattani acknowledged that the stock’s slide from its spring peak was driven by concerns over SpaceX’s satellite internet ambitions and merger speculation around T-Mobile US in the United States. He cautioned that a sustained improvement in the news flow could still take several quarters.

Technical Picture Still Bearish Despite Recent Bounce

Despite Friday’s advance, the stock remains firmly below all its major moving averages. The 50-day simple moving average sits at €27.38, the 100-day at €29.31 and the 200-day at €28.68. The Relative Strength Index of 48.6 (primary) or 48.9 (secondary) signals neither overbought nor oversold conditions, leaving technicians without a clear directional cue. Annualised 30-day volatility stands at 31.74%.

The shares are 23.73% away from the 52-week high of €34.35 set on 27 February 2026, and just 11.30% above the low of €23.54 recorded on 30 June 2026. On a 30-day basis the stock is still nursing a 7.9% loss, year-to-date it is down 5.99%, and over the past twelve months the decline stands at 14.38%.

Deutsche Telekom at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Buyback Programme Provides a Floor

A €2 billion share repurchase scheme has offered intermittent support in recent weeks, and chart watchers identify the €26.00–€26.18 zone as a near-term resistance hurdle. Further ceilings lie around €26.50 and the moving averages above. On the downside, a support band between €23.13 and €23.47 is regarded as critical. Deutsche Telekom’s market capitalisation currently amounts to €124.53 billion.

For now, the stock’s fate hinges on whether the new T-Mobile US line-up can reignite growth in the enterprise segment and how quickly the broader narrative around competitive threats dissipates. Friday’s rally shows that investors are willing to look past the short-term pain, but the next quarterly results will be the real test of whether the restructuring can deliver.
