A growing number of German companies and public institutions are chasing a patchwork of workplace labels, from family-friendliness and bike-readiness to mental health and green space standards. The initiatives range from fresh hiring pushes for certification managers to awards that signal a commitment to employee well-being.
Debeka’s Family Seal Renewed for a Fifth Term
The insurer Debeka received renewed certification under the “audit berufundfamilie” programme at an event in Berlin in mid-June. The company has held the seal since 2007; the latest award runs through December 2028.
CEO Thomas Brahm pointed to solidarity as a core value woven into the company culture. Assessors evaluated flexible working hours, hybrid arrangements, a company-run daycare centre in Koblenz, mentoring programmes, and nursing-care guides for employees.

Public Employers Bolster Their Ratings
The Region Hannover administration earned a silver designation from the ADFC as a bicycle-friendly employer. Officials have created 312 parking spaces for bikes, with another 128 planned from spring 2027 onward. More than 150 employees already use the bike-leasing scheme. The region aims for carbon neutrality by 2035.
Across the border in Switzerland, the city of Zurich secured the gold label from Grünstadt Schweiz for the second time. Its recertification score reached 464 out of a possible 500 points, a top-tier result. The city is working to set aside 15 percent of built-up areas as ecologically valuable land.
New Posts for Certification Drives
Zurich’s municipal hospital, Stadtspital Zürich, is looking to hire additional human-resources staff starting in August as it pursues the “Friendly Work Space” health label. Meanwhile, the city of Stuttgart is filling a permanent position in tax compliance within its personnel department from September, focusing on tax advice and adherence to regulatory standards.
Heart-Rate Checks and Trainee Mental Health
An automotive supplier in the Ludwigsburg district ran a health day with the AOK health insurance fund that centred on heart-rate variability measurement. Employees received individual feedback on their stress levels and cardiovascular condition.
In Erlangen, the district administration and the berufundfamilie Service GmbH have scheduled a “Work-Life Balance Breakfast” for July, dedicated to life-stage-aware human-resource policies. Separately, chambers of industry and commerce and craft chambers in Magdeburg and Halle are hosting an online workshop at the end of June on mental health during apprenticeships, with sessions on conversation techniques and prevention offers for trainees.
