Dive computer on the wrist

The Descent Mk3i is Garmin’s latest dive computer watch, positioned above the Descent G1 and Mk2 series as the current premium line for recreational and technical divers. The 45 mm variant weighs around 83 grams with the strap, light enough to wear daily yet substantial on the wrist.

Garmin combines a high-resolution AMOLED display with a sapphire crystal lens and 200-meter rated water resistance, certified for scuba diving. Underwater, colors stay readable even when the surrounding world turns into a green-blue blur at depth. Large data fields show depth, no-deco time and gas mix without forcing squints through a mask.

Air integration and dive modes

A key feature of the Descent Mk3i is optional air integration via the Descent T2 tank pod, supporting up to eight transmitters for group or multi-gas diving. In practice, this means one glance at the wrist shows pressure data for your own cylinder and buddy tanks in supported setups.

The watch supports single-gas and multi-gas scuba, including nitrox and trimix, plus gauge, freedive and spearfishing modes. Technical divers can plan decompression schedules, set custom gradient factors and transfer plans from Garmin’s desktop and mobile tools. The digital compass is tilt-compensated, reducing the frustration of a compass that drifts when the wrist moves.

Smartwatch and safety functions

Garmin layers its usual multisport and smartwatch features on top of the dive focus. The Descent Mk3i offers GNSS-based positioning at the surface, heart-rate tracking, training profiles for activities from running to indoor cycling, and phone notifications when paired via Bluetooth. Battery life reaches up to 10 days in smartwatch mode for the 45 mm version, with shorter yet usable runtimes when dives are frequent.

For safety, Garmin includes incident detection and emergency assistance functions when connected to a smartphone, helpful for surface sports but not a replacement for marine emergency gear. A dive log stores up to 200 dives on the device and synchronizes to Garmin Connect, where users and instructors can review profiles, ascent rates and gas use. During validation, testers from specialist site ScubaLab noted the steady vibration alarms as a practical cue when visibility drops.

Build, pricing and availability

Physically, the Descent Mk3i uses a fiber-reinforced polymer case with a metal bezel and a silicone strap. The case back sits smooth against the skin; during pool tests, the watch hugged the wrist firmly without snagging suit sleeves. Buttons have a clear mechanical click even with neoprene gloves, helping avoid missed inputs.

Garmin lists the Descent Mk3i 45 mm with sapphire lens at around 1,499.99 USD on its US site, while euro pricing in Germany for comparable variants is around 1,599 EUR. Availability covers Garmin’s major markets, including North America and Europe, via the manufacturer’s online store and selected dive and outdoor dealers.
