A Düsseldorf Labour Court ruling invalidates a full-time office order, as hybrid work reshapes offices, hardware, health, and safety—from AOC monitors to Adidas work shoes.

German courts are moving against blanket return-to-office mandates. The Düsseldorf Labour Court ruled on 21 June 2026 that a company’s order requiring full-time office presence was invalid. The employer had argued that being in the office would improve communication with remote external partners, but the judges found no evidence to support that claim.

The decision lands at a time when the workplace itself is being physically redesigned. A survey by the ifo Institute found that more than 10 percent of businesses have already cut their office space. Another 12.5 percent say they plan to do so soon. Experts now advise companies to use the office mainly as a meeting hub for strategic tasks while keeping routine work at home.

Hardware makers are also adapting to the new reality of hybrid work. AOC launched its E4 monitor series earlier this week, targeting small and medium-sized firms. The screens can be adjusted in height by up to 180 millimetres and carry TĂśV certifications for eye comfort. Integrated USB-C docking stations and daisy-chain functions reduce cable clutter, which, according to the company, helps lower stress levels at the desk.

As companies redesign their physical workspaces, ensuring health and safety compliance is just as important as choosing the right equipment. Without proper documentation, you could be exposing your business to unnecessary legal and financial risk. In the input-device segment, Logitech plans to release the G305 X SUPERLIGHT at the end of June. At 59 grams, it is noticeably lighter than its predecessor. Keychron and Corsair are following the same trend: less weight, higher precision, and less strain on the wrists.

Prolonged sitting remains a health hazard. Reports from June 2026 highlight muscle imbalances and a growing incidence of hunched backs. Experts recommend targeted exercises for the thoracic spine. For workers who need to be on their feet, a device called the “ergoWalker” has appeared on the market, offering direct support to the musculoskeletal system.

Adidas is entering the safety footwear segment. The “ADIDAS PRO WORK” collection will arrive in Europe from August 2026. Developed with GLO Brands, the shoes combine sporty design with fibreglass toe caps and ESD protection. Special women’s models and pressure-relief systems aim to improve comfort in logistics and manufacturing environments.

Heat in the workplace is becoming a flashpoint for unions. The Austrian Trade Union Federation (ÖGB) is demanding binding heat-protection rules for indoor spaces. So far, clear regulations exist only for outdoor work. Yet rising temperatures in offices, workshops, and care facilities pose real risks. Facility managers are turning to overnight ventilation, green façades, and room-temperature monitoring systems.

A survey indicates that roughly one-third of employees see heat as a major problem. Nearly half report that their workload has increased over the past two years. Concerns about the ability to work until retirement are mounting.

Mental health is also under scrutiny. A meta-analysis of 192 studies shows that autonomy and social connection massively boost job satisfaction. Controlling pressure, by contrast, raises the risk of burnout. The Magdeburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) is offering online workshops at the end of June to train supervisors in handling psychological stress during apprenticeships.
