A whitepaper released Thursday by the Adecco Group reveals that roughly 1.9 million new positions in artificial intelligence were created between 2022 and 2025 across Europe. Yet despite this hiring surge, only about 20 percent of EU companies have integrated the technology on a broad scale.

The report forecasts the emergence of hybrid labor markets where managing coordination between humans, digital agents, and physical AI systems becomes a core competency for managers. This shift is already reshaping workflows in logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing.

Ergonomics and Automation Reshape Logistics and Care

In Wilhelmshaven, forklift manufacturer Jungheinrich is building a new distribution center for a technical wholesaler. The facility will feature a fully automated container and narrow-aisle warehouse alongside six ergonomically designed picking stations. Scheduled to begin operations in the second quarter of 2027, the setup is built for future expansion with additional aisles and forklifts.

Healthcare is also testing AI-driven improvements. The "Pflege 2030" pilot project in Karlsfeld, Bavaria, run by the Fraunhofer Institute and the University of Bremen, trialed fall-detection systems and cleaning robots. Funded with roughly 3.1 million euros, the initiative aims to free nursing staff from routine tasks so they can spend more time on direct patient care. Proven innovations are now being phased into regular operations.

Quality Control Gets a Machine-Learning Upgrade

Industrial quality inspection is becoming increasingly automated. Textile service provider Mewa took a strategic stake of more than 20 percent in specialist Desion. Over five months, a patented inspection system used AI image analysis to check more than 70 million cleaning cloths for defects and contamination.

In metalworking, companies producing turned parts are adopting machine learning for virtual quality checks and automated post-calculation. On Tuesday, LMIS AG demonstrated software that identifies defective components without needing a prior database of errors. The system uses only the characteristics of good parts as a reference and achieved a 98.5 percent accuracy rate in identifying acceptable items during tests.

Digital Agents Enter Workshops and IT Desks

Specialized AI agents are taking over complex coordination tasks. ServiceUp introduced AI repair agents for fleet maintenance on Tuesday, claiming they cut manual coordination effort by 62 percent and halve equipment downtime.

Bosch announced an AI assistant for its automotive diagnostic software, scheduled for delivery as a software update by the end of 2026. The tool analyzes fault patterns and pulls data from repair manuals and manufacturer databases.

For IT service providers, NEXOWARE launched a platform on Wednesday that deploys agents to automate support-ticket handling and billing. These systems operate on a "human-in-the-loop" principle: the AI generates proposals, but a person makes the final call.

Rising Costs and Data Quality Challenges

Productivity gains come with a price tag. Reports from Wednesday indicate that AI token consumption has multiplied in some companies since late 2025, with monthly expenses reaching six figures. Experts recommend strategic deployment: expensive high-end models should be reserved for complex tasks, while cheaper open-source alternatives can handle routine processes.

The quality of underlying data remains the single most critical factor for successful industrial AI projects. Without clean, well-structured information, even the most advanced systems struggle to deliver reliable results.
