Public administration is catching up in the race for tech talent. As the German job market enters the second half of 2026, the Federal Employment Agency reports that 24,339 positions are available for fully remote work — a figure that underscores how deeply location-independent employment has embedded itself in the country’s labor landscape.

But it is not just private IT firms competing for applicants. Berlin’s police force is hiring for application development on a permanent basis starting October 1. The role falls under pay grade E11 of the TV-L collective agreement, meaning a gross monthly salary between roughly €4,064 and €5,886. Applications are due by mid-July. The opening signals that Germany’s notoriously slow-to-digitize public sector is now actively courting developers.

Pay Ranges Vary Widely in IT and Home-Office Roles

Salary bands in the technology sector remain generous. Senacor Technologies is listing positions with annual compensation between €70,000 and €85,000. Spacedome Media goes even higher for home-office roles, offering €60,000 to €90,000. Meanwhile, IT service provider ACP is expanding its recruitment pipeline at locations in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, seeking both apprentices and interns.

The remote-work tally is significant but still represents only a fraction of total vacancies. In the healthcare field, specialist portals counted more than 10,000 open positions at the end of June, spread across nearly 4,000 employers. Opportunities range from senior physician posts in internal medicine to surgical training slots.

Nursing Education and Succession Planning Gain Attention

The training side of the care sector is also getting a push. The Pflegeakademie Seestadt Bremerhaven has scheduled an information session for early July on part-time nursing qualifications, with the course set to start in autumn. Away from the classroom, a tangible generational shift is underway at a care service in Eilenstedt: leadership has been passed within the family and new premises have already been occupied.

Universities and Local Authorities Fill Academic and Youth-Work Posts

Higher education institutions are staffing up for the winter semester. The University of Hamburg is hiring academic staff for international relations and tutors for quantitative analysis methods. Tutors earn a monthly stipend of €343.02. Most application deadlines close at the end of June or beginning of July.

In Berlin’s Reinickendorf district, the local authority is seeking a permanent manager for a youth recreation facility, categorized under pay grade S17 TV-L. A school principal position in Heidelberg is also open.

Management Moves in Real Estate, Trade Associations and Beyond

The property sector saw new leadership roles announced in late June, including positions in Frankfurt am Main and at the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR). Project manager openings in DĂĽsseldorf and an electrical engineering department head role at the German Pension Insurance in Berlin have also been advertised.

On the association and sales front, high-level vacancies include a hospital-policy position in Berlin and a board-level sales function in Gütersloh. Germany’s equestrian sports organization is looking for a team leader in communications and memberservice staff.
