Power management is suddenly the star of the AI hardware story. Infineon has secured a spot inside NVIDIA’s MGX AI Factory Ecosystem, turning what began as a May hint into a concrete product-line milestone. The chipmaker will now supply semiconductor solutions for MGX architectures that run on 800-volt DC power — a design that brings high-voltage DC closer to the serverboard and cuts conversion stages. Infineon’s power-management ICs step that 800 VDC down to 50, 12 or 6 volts, depending on what the AI accelerators require.

The technology stack draws on three materials: silicon, silicon carbide and gallium nitride. GaN switches operate near 1 megahertz, allowing compact converters, while SiC JFETs handle protection and hot-swap functions for serverboards connected directly to the 800-VDC rail. The move transforms a vague “AI data center” narrative into a measurable business unit focused on voltage conversion and energy efficiency inside server racks. Financial terms and revenue contributions from the NVIDIA ecosystem remain undisclosed — the next official update comes on 5 August.

Markets have already priced in the opportunity. Infineon shares closed at €81.81 on Friday, a new 52-week high and a gain of 2.26% on the day. The stock rose 11.78% over the past seven sessions and has surged an eye-catching 113.58% since the start of the year. At that level, the equity trades 97.63% above its 200-day moving average of €41.40; the 50-day average sits at €53.55.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Infineon?

The rally is not built on AI hype alone. Broader industrial demand — including automotive semiconductor content — gives Infineon a diversified base. Samsung’s expansion to a 40% share in automotive memory chips in 2025 underscores how deeply chips are penetrating vehicle design. For European chip stocks, that kind of breadth makes the run-up more credible to many portfolio managers than a pure AI bet.

Macro conditions lent a hand last week. A reported 60-day ceasefire in the Iran conflict pushed oil prices lower, relieving pressure on tech stocks globally and supporting the DAX. Infineon was among the strongest pre-market performers on Friday alongside Siemens Energy, and the month-end close confirmed the trend.

Technically, the advance looks stretched. The relative strength index of 56.1 stops short of signalling overheating, but the 97.63% premium to the 200-day average leaves little margin for error. Evercore has flagged a 10-year US Treasury yield above 4.5% as a concrete headwind for equities broadly. For now, the €81 area serves as an immediate test in the first week of June – if AI demand and tech sentiment hold, momentum can persist.

Analyst sentiment remains supportive without providing new anchor points. Deutsche Bank, Citigroup, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and Berenberg all carry positive ratings. Bernstein Research reiterated “Outperform”, noting that the third-quarter outlook beat market expectations. On the derivatives side, a UniCredit Bonus-Cap certificate ended the week at €75.45 with a barrier at €45.00 and a term extending to December 2026, signalling continued retail interest.
