Micron Technology finds itself in the rare position of having every chip it can make for 2026 already committed to customers. The stock punched through a fresh all-time high of €1,024.60 on Monday, catapulting its year-to-date gain to a blistering 280% and the trailing twelve-month advance to over 870%. At the heart of the rally lies a punishing supply shortage: the company can currently satisfy only about half of the demand from its largest AI clients for high-bandwidth memory (HBM). DRAM contract prices surged roughly 60% in the fiscal second quarter as a result.

To widen that bottleneck, the company is unleashing a capital spending blitz. Management has earmarked more than $25 billion for capital expenditures in the current fiscal year, with a substantial chunk flowing into new facilities in Singapore. Analysts expect outlays to climb further in 2027 as Micron transitions to the next chip generation alongside partners such as TSMC.

Yet the most consequential spending is happening on home soil. Micron is building massive fabrication complexes in Clay, New York, and Boise, Idaho — a historic industrial build-out that signals a fundamental shift from cyclical commodity producer to cornerstone of domestic AI infrastructure. The construction giant Bechtel has been named the lead partner for the New York site, ending the planning phase and putting the project on track for full-scale excavation. These factories will manufacture critical memory chips for the next wave of AI systems in a secure, domestic environment, bundling research and volume production to accelerate time-to-market.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Micron?

That structural transformation is gradually reshaping how investors value the stock. The average analyst price target now stands at €824.07, and the company recently crossed the trillion-dollar market cap threshold. Despite the staggering rally, the shares trade at a forward price-to-earnings multiple below ten, a reflection of the earnings explosion analysts expect. UBS sees the stock reaching $1,625, while Deutsche Bank and Stifel both target $1,500.

The immediate test arrives on Wednesday after the US market close, when Micron reports fiscal third-quarter results. The official revenue guidance sits at roughly $33.5 billion, with a gross margin target of 81%. Some banks, including Goldman Sachs, are already pencilling in revenue above $37 billion. The consensus earnings range is $19.72 to $20.57 per share — a year-over-year increase of roughly 1,000% compared with the prior-year quarter’s $12.20. The options market is pricing a swing of about 14% for the session after the print, underscoring the binary risk embedded in such extreme expectations.

Competition is also sharpening. Samsung recently began mass production of new memory chips tailored for Nvidia, aiming to capture a larger slice of the HBM market. For Micron to sustain its current momentum, a solid quarter alone will not suffice — management must blow past the high bar and raise full-year guidance.

But beyond the quarterly noise, the narrative is shifting. Long-term contracts are replacing spot-market volatility, and the backlog extends through 2026. As AI inference migrates from data centres into smartphones and automobiles, the demand for compact, energy-efficient memory is only accelerating. Micron is no longer merely riding a cyclical wave; it is pouring the foundation for the next industrial revolution, one shovelful of Clay, New York soil at a time.
