Nebius at the Mercy of Meta: A 16% Weekly Drop, Insider Sales, and a $64 Million Hedge Fund Counter-Gamble

The Nebius Group share has lost roughly one-sixth of its market value in the span of a single week, yet the company itself has not changed a thing. No contract has been cancelled, no forecast lowered. The culprit is a single unconfirmed rumor: that its largest customer, Meta, might become a competitor. That the stock could crater on nothing more than a Bloomberg report underscores just how fragile this AI infrastructure play has become.
The sell-off accelerated after Meta was said to be exploring a plan to lease its own spare computing capacity to external developers, directly challenging cloud giants like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure — and, by extension, Nebius. The story emerged at a particularly vulnerable moment. Meta is not just any client for Nebius; its five-year deal, valued at roughly $27 billion, includes a $12 billion base package and an option for an additional $15 billion. That single agreement dwarfs Nebius’s current annual revenue and sits at the very foundation of its investment case. The market immediately repriced the entire business model on the suspicion that Meta might one day hoard rather than rent its GPU capacity.
The stock now trades near 168 euros, down 1.81 percent on the latest session, bringing the seven-day decline to 16.65 percent. From the all-time high of 261 euros reached on June 22, the shares are off 35.63 percent. Yet the headline annual numbers still tell a stunning story: Nebius has gained 119.61 percent year to date and 315.84 percent over the past twelve months. Its market capitalization stands at roughly 47.86 billion euros, and the stock sits 43.67 percent above its 200-day moving average of 116.94 euros.
Adding to the nervousness, top executives have been cashing in shares. Chief executive Arkadiy Volozh sold nearly 47,000 shares worth roughly $11 million in early July, though the transaction was fully automated to cover tax liabilities from equity grants. He still holds over 820,000 shares. Technology chief Danila Shtan and infrastructure director Andrey Korolenko together unloaded shares worth about $12 million. While the CEO’s sale had a technical explanation, the combined insider selling has done little to calm retail and institutional nerves.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?
Yet one major investor is betting the opposite way. The hedge fund TTRF Capital deployed $64 million of its capital into Nebius stock, a position that represents nearly 59 percent of its reported equity portfolio. The fund’s first-ever disclosed wager is essentially an all-in bet that the market has overreacted and that the Meta cloud panic is temporary.
Branche experts at the research firm SemiAnalysis argue that Meta’s move is actually a tailwind for Neocloud providers like Nebius. They contend that Meta is building new capacity primarily through external partners, turning the tech giant into a growth engine rather than a threat. Some Nebius optimists go further, noting that the company had already planned to resell more than half of the Meta-dedicated capacity to third parties — meaning the economics of the deal could survive even if Meta does pursue its own cloud ambitions.
Regardless of how the Meta narrative resolves, the episode has laid bare the extreme volatility of this stock. The 30-day annualized volatility stands at 103.81 percent, and the relative strength index has fallen to 38, signaling persistent selling pressure that has not yet exhausted itself. Chart watchers note that the shares have broken below their medium-term trend lines, with the 200-day simple moving average at 116.64 euros offering the next major support if the sell-off deepens.
Nebius at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.
For now, the Nebius story remains a high-stakes wager on one customer — and on the question of whether Meta will remain a tenant or become a landlord. Until more clarity arrives from Menlo Park, every new report about Meta’s cloud plans will eclipse any earnings statement or infrastructure milestone the company might produce.
