Nebius Caught Between Insider Profit-Taking and a $64 Million Bullish Wager as Meta Clouds the Outlook

Nebius Group has become a study in contradictions. The AI infrastructure provider’s shares tumbled 15.11% over the past week to €171.10, yet a freshly launched hedge fund has piled nearly 59% of its entire portfolio into the stock — a $64 million bet that screams conviction. At the same time, top executives have been cashing out millions in equity, feeding the narrative of a company entering a critical crossroads.
The insider sales are not as straightforward as they first appear. Chief Executive Arkadiy Volozh offloaded roughly 47,000 shares worth close to $11 million in early July, but the transaction was entirely automated to cover tax liabilities arising from staff equity grants. He retains over 820,000 shares. Meanwhile, technology chief Danila Shtan and infrastructure leader Andrey Korolenko sold a combined $12 million in shares, adding to the market’s unease. The sheer volume of insider disposals, however, has been met by an equally aggressive institutional vote of confidence: TTRF Capital, a new fund, made Nebius its debut and dominant holding.
The trigger for the recent sell-off is familiar. News that Meta plans to sell surplus AI computing capacity sparked fears that the tech giant will evolve from customer to direct rival. Nebius’s stock, which hit a record €261 in June, now sits 34% below that peak. Yet industry analysts at SemiAnalysis argue the panic is misplaced: Meta is building its new capacity primarily through external partners, making it a potential growth engine for “neocloud” providers such as Nebius and CoreWeave rather than a cannibalistic competitor.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?
Fundamentally, the company’s numbers remain explosive. First-quarter revenue surged 684% year-on-year to $399 million, with adjusted EBITDA reaching $129.5 million. Management guides for full-year revenue of $3.0 billion to $3.4 billion, underpinned by $6.3 billion in capacity commitments — including $2 billion from Nvidia. Inclusion in the Nasdaq-100 in June validated the company’s elevated status, yet the stock carries heavy baggage: $15 billion in debt and enormous capital demands from infrastructure build-out.
Analysts are deeply split. Northland maintains a bullish $248 price target, while Morgan Stanley’s $144 target reflects caution over what it calls “ambitious” near-term expectations. On a trailing basis, the price-to-earnings ratio towers above the US software sector average, though the company is still burning through cash to scale.
Technically, the chart signals a market in distress. The RSI is hovering near 38.7 — deep in oversold territory — while the shares have sliced through medium-term trendlines. If the selling continues, the next major support level is the 200-day moving average at €116.64, more than 30% below the current price. The distance to the 50-day average is currently just over 11%, suggesting the stock could drift further before finding a floor.
For all the recent pain, Nebius has still delivered a year-to-date return of 123.66% and a staggering 323.51% over twelve months. The central question now is whether the Meta threat proves to be a short-lived scare or the beginning of a structural re-rating. With a $64 million hedge fund bet on one side and executives protecting their tax positions on the other, the next few weeks will show whether the market’s fear or a contrarian opportunity wins out.
