Nebius shares plunged 36% monthly despite 684% revenue growth as market questions AI infrastructure funding. Company shifts to secured loans and asset-light partnerships.

Nebius Stock Rout Deepens as AI Infrastructure Financing Pivots to Secured Debt

The market’s reassessment of AI infrastructure companies is proving brutal for Nebius, but the company is trying to rewrite its financing playbook before the damage deepens. Shares closed at €155.52 on Friday after a 3.62% bounce, yet that did little to mask a 36.83% monthly rout that has wiped out roughly 40% from the 52-week high. The sell-off is not isolated: CoreWeave lost 17.6% in the same week, IREN dropped 18.3%, and the entire “Neocloud” group has been marked down regardless of earnings performance.

Nebius’s answer to the funding crunch came in mid-July when it closed a $775 million secured loan backed by installed GPU infrastructure and cash flows from investment-grade customers. The facility carries a spread of SOFR plus 250 basis points and matures on October 31, 2030. Crucially, the underlying customer contracts cover more than 100% of the financed investments, and the debt-service coverage ratio stands at 1.15x. By tapping secured debt rather than issuing new equity or convertible bonds, the company avoids dilution — a template it says can be repeated for future client-linked financing.

Operationally, the numbers remain eye-popping. First-quarter 2026 revenue surged 684% to $399 million, with the AI cloud segment climbing 841% to $389.7 million. Nebius has more than $40 billion in contracted future revenue from Microsoft and Meta, and it is targeting an annualized revenue run rate of $7 billion to $9 billion by year-end. Capital expenditure is planned at $20–$25 billion for 2026, including a $1.7 billion fuel-cell initiative with Bloom Energy to power data centers. A 310-megawatt AI factory in Lappeenranta, Finland, is expected online by 2027, and a 300-megawatt expansion in New Jersey is also in the pipeline.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?

But the market has focused on the financing side. Nebius recently unveiled a new partnership model in which infrastructure partners will own and operate data centers while Nebius provides the architecture, hardware design, software and global sales channel — an asset-light pivot designed to reduce balance-sheet intensity. Investors read that shift as a sign that the pace of expansion baked into the stock price cannot be sustained without ever more creative funding structures. The announcement triggered a 7.8% drop, followed by a further 12.6% plunge in early US trading on July 16.

Technical indicators suggest the selling has been emotional rather than fundamental. The 14-day RSI sits at 37.4, signaling oversold conditions but not yet a capitulation. The stock is 21.49% below its 50-day moving average of €198.10, yet still 30.39% above its 200-day average of €119.28 — a measure of how extreme the prior rally was. Annualized 30-day volatility has topped 104%, underscoring the role of sentiment over balance sheets in today’s trading.

Behind the price action lies a structural question for the whole sector: who ultimately bears the capital cost of the AI build-out — the Neocloud operators, their hyperscaler clients, or third-party financiers? Nebius is betting on model three with its lighter capital approach, while competitors like CoreWeave remain tied to debt- and equity-heavy structures. With bond issuance across the industry already reaching $194.1 billion in 2026 — nearly ten times the level of 2024 — and Oracle’s S&P rating slipping to just one notch above junk, the pressure on every player’s financing strategy is mounting. Nebius’s market cap of roughly €38.1 billion shows it is still a heavyweight, but the past month has demonstrated how quickly euphoria can evaporate once capital costs start to crowd out the growth story.
