Nebius Unveils AI Cloud 3.6 Amid a 15% Weekly Selloff on Meta Concerns

Nebius is pushing out its most feature-rich cloud update yet at a moment when the market is fixated on a much bigger story: the risk that its anchor customer, Meta, could turn from buyer to competitor. The juxtaposition is stark. On Monday, shares closed at €192.42, trimming a day's decline to just 0.8% but leaving the stock down almost 16% over the previous seven sessions. The catalyst was a Bloomberg report that Meta is evaluating direct sales of excess AI compute capacity – a move that would place the social-media giant in direct competition with the very infrastructure providers it currently bankrolls.
The potential $27 billion in long-term contracts with Meta, including a $12 billion five-year deal for dedicated data-center space, are the bedrock of Nebius's growth narrative. But that concentration is now a liability. The February announcement of a deal built on Nvidia's Vera-Rubin platform, combined with a prior Microsoft agreement and a $2 billion strategic stake from Nvidia, had propelled the stock to a 52-week high of €261 on June 22. Since then, the shares have retreated by more than a quarter.
Against this backdrop, Nebius released version 3.6 of its AI Cloud, internally dubbed "Aether." The upgrade focuses on developer productivity, introducing one-click SkyPilot integration, streamlined instance setup, a unified notification center, and global search. More strategically, it launches "Nebius Echo," an AI agent that lets teams manage cloud infrastructure through natural language in the web console – potentially reducing reliance on specialized engineering talent. Governance and security features have also been enhanced, targeting regulated industries where data control is paramount.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nebius?
The product push comes as the stock exhibits extreme volatility. Annualized 30-day volatility is above 103%, making Nebius trade more like a levered bet on the AI infrastructure theme than a steady industrial. The RSI sits at 44.4 (or 45.3 on another day), in neutral territory. The shares are clinging to their 50-day moving average near €192, while trading at more than 60% above the 200-day average of €116. That gap underscores how far and fast the re-rating has run.
Operationally, the company is scaling rapidly. Contracted power capacity has reached 3.5 gigawatts, exceeding its original year-end target of 2.5 GW, and management now expects at least 4 GW by December 31. The AI Cloud unit's adjusted EBITDA margin nearly doubled sequentially to 45% in the first quarter, suggesting growth is not purely margin-dilutive. Yet the capital demands remain enormous, and the market is pricing in years of flawless execution.
The next milestones include the phased rollout of Nebius Echo, adoption of builder and certification programs, and early customer feedback on sensitive workloads. Just as important is how hyperscalers like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google respond – whether with competing tools or price cuts. For Nebius, the AI Cloud 3.6 update provides a fresh product narrative to differentiate itself in the crowded neocloud space. But the overriding question remains unresolved: will Meta remain a customer and backer, or become a rival? Until that uncertainty clears, volatility is likely the feature, not the bug.
