For Nokia investors, the disconnect between the company's technological milestones and its stock performance has rarely been wider. The Finnish telecom equipment maker saw its shares tumble 18.31% over the past week to close at €8.90 on Friday, even as it unveiled what it calls the industry's first commercial AI-RAN platform in partnership with Nvidia. The relative strength index now sits at 31.5, flashing oversold signals, yet the stock remains 40.55% below its 52-week high of €14.97 reached in early June. Year-to-date, the equity is still up 59.21%, but the sharp pullback has erased a substantial portion of the gains from a rally that began earlier in 2026.

The centerpiece of Nokia's AI strategy is the AI-RAN platform announced on July 15, which integrates Nokia's anyRAN software with Nvidia's Aerial AI-RAN technology. The system is designed to transform traditional mobile networks into AI-native infrastructure, boosting spectrum efficiency by over 20% today. Nokia has set clear targets: 50% efficiency gains by 2027 and more than 100% — effectively doubling network capacity within existing spectrum — by 2028. The solution works across 4G, 5G, and future 6G networks and can be deployed via existing AirScale hardware, as standalone AI-RAN nodes, or through cloud-based operations. Nokia is also introducing a subscription model for the software, giving carriers ongoing AI enhancements and performance upgrades.

First pilot installations are slated for late 2026, with commercial availability planned for 2027. The technology was developed alongside Nvidia and marks Nokia CEO Justin Hotard's push to reposition the company from a traditional telecom vendor into a provider of AI infrastructure, a strategy he calls "Connecting Intelligence."

A day before the AI-RAN announcement, Nokia expanded its 5G partnership with Taiwan Mobile, aiming to build AI-native mobile networks in Taiwan. That deal covers network intelligence, infrastructure, sustainability, and resilience, with Nokia supplying its latest AirScale portfolio including base stations and radio technology. The AI software will enable real-time automation and predictive analytics, reducing the need for manual network management.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Nokia?

The stock's recent slide appears to be a short-term correction following a strong run, but the earnings report due on Thursday, July 23 will test whether the narrative can hold. Nokia will release its second-quarter and first-half 2026 results at 8:00 CEST, followed by an analyst webcast at 15:00 CEST. The market will scrutinize whether the growth momentum from the first quarter has carried through. In Q1 2026, Nokia's Optical Networks revenue rose 20% year-over-year, while its AI & Cloud segment surged 49%. Management subsequently raised its full-year network infrastructure growth forecast to 12–14%. The company is also standing by its operating profit guidance of €2.0–2.5 billion for 2026.

Analysts will be particularly focused on whether the acquisition of Infinera — a specialist in optical networking that Nokia bought to bolster its hyperscale data center business — is already delivering the expected synergies. Another key area is the mobile infrastructure unit, which has been struggling with cyclical weakness. The AI-RAN initiative is intended to stabilize that segment, and the report may indicate if early traction is materializing.

The analyst consensus on Nokia stands at "Moderate Buy," with 18 analysts providing an average 12-month price target of $12.57, though the range spans from $5.00 to $21.00. The wide spread reflects the uncertainty surrounding the pace of AI monetization in telecom. Meanwhile, the stock is trading roughly 26% below its 50-day moving average of €11.96, underscoring the severity of the recent sell-off.

Nokia at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Beyond earnings, Nokia is also making the rounds at industry events, including the IDNOG-11 conference from July 20–23 and the Nokia Utility User Group Australia from July 20–21, both focused on communications infrastructure for utility networks. But all eyes will be on Thursday's numbers to see whether the AI story can translate into hard financial results — and whether that will be enough to reverse the market's pessimism.
