Novo Nordisk has embarked on an ambitious reforestation project in the Brazilian Amazon, a 20-year partnership with local firm re.green to restore 500 hectares in the municipality of Paragominas, Pará state. The initiative is expected to generate roughly 87,000 carbon credits, using only native tree species and blending natural regeneration with targeted planting. The Danish drugmaker frames the move as part of a broader conviction that intact ecosystems are directly linked to human health — a long-term bet that sits alongside the more immediate operational turbulence the company faced this week.

That turbulence arrived in the form of a cyberattack on 11 June. Unidentified hackers breached internal systems, accessing pseudonymised patient data from clinical trials as well as more directly identifiable information on physicians and trial staff, including names, registration numbers, email addresses and phone numbers. Two separate groups, FulcrumSec and TheUSERS007, demanded ransoms of $25 million and $50 million respectively. Novo Nordisk refused to pay. The company insists its core business continues to run without interruption, and external cybersecurity experts are assisting the ongoing investigation.

While the security incident grabbed headlines, the pipeline story took several steps forward. The most significant regulatory catalyst remains CagriSema, the combination therapy for obesity and diabetes. Novo filed a New Drug Application with the FDA in December 2025, and a decision is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. Phase 3 data from the REIMAGINE programme had already shown meaningful reductions in HbA1c and body weight, with all three studies hitting their primary endpoints. Separately, a new study for Cagrilintid was registered, targeting patients who cannot tolerate GLP-1 therapies due to gastrointestinal side effects; the trial began in May 2026 and plans roughly eight months of treatment per participant. At the ISTH congress in Paris from 11 to 15 July, Novo will present fresh data on Denecimig, a bispecific antibody designed to prevent bleeding episodes in haemophilia A. That drug’s FDA application has been under review since September 2025.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Novo Nordisk?

Analyst opinions remain split on valuation. Goldman Sachs nudged its price target up slightly to DKK 310 while keeping a Neutral rating. Morningstar took a more cautious step, downgrading the stock from Buy to Hold, albeit with a fair value estimate of DKK 343 — still comfortably above the current share price. Deutsche Bank had already placed a Hold rating and a DKK 290 target earlier in June. The divergence reflects genuine disagreement over how sustainable growth will be in the obesity and diabetes arena.

The share price tells a story of recovery, but one that is still incomplete. Novo Nordisk shares closed the week at €42.19, marking a 7-day gain of 8.44%. That puts the stock well above its 50-day moving average of €37.80 but still roughly 31% below the 52-week high of €61.20. On a monthly basis, the equity has added almost 10%. The relative strength index has climbed above 71, signalling an overbought condition that could trigger a near-term consolidation. Year-to-date, the stock remains about 6% in the red.

Investors now have a clear set of milestones to watch: the Q2 earnings report due on 5 August, the ongoing cyber incident investigation, and the slow but steady approach of the CagriSema FDA decision. Meanwhile, the Amazon reforestation project underscores a strategic horizon that stretches far beyond the next quarter — a reminder that Novo Nordisk is planting trees, and pipelines, for the long haul.
