The German space and defense group OHB enters a critical week with its share price hovering near a key technical level, just as the artificial support that has propped up the stock for the past month is removed. After J.P. Morgan concluded its stabilization efforts on Friday, the company’s equity will trade without a safety net for the first time since late June.

The bank had been intervening in the market since June 24 to cushion the selling pressure that followed a major share placement. Its last purchase came on July 24, and with that backstop now gone, the stock must find its own footing. Friday’s closing price of €240.50 sits a mere 0.11 percent below the 200-day moving average of €240.76 — a line in the sand that chart watchers view as the neckline of the long-term uptrend.

A Brutal Correction From Euphoric Heights

The current price represents a staggering retreat from the heights reached earlier this year. The shares hit a 52-week high of €688.00 in May, meaning the stock has shed 65.12 percent of its value in roughly two months. The past 30 days alone account for a 34.60 percent decline.

Yet the longer-term picture tells a very different story. On a year-to-date basis, OHB is still up 105.13 percent, and over the trailing twelve months the gain stands at 230.58 percent. The 50-day moving average of €366.60 and the 100-day average of €325.04 both remain far above the current level, underscoring just how steep and sudden the correction has been.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying OHB SE?

The trigger for the selloff is well understood. In late June, OHB completed a capital increase that raised approximately €484 million in gross proceeds. The entire capital measure, including a secondary sale by private equity investor KKR, totaled around €900 million. The placement price was set at €300 per share — a significant discount to the prevailing market price at the time. That the stock now trades well below that level suggests the market absorbed the new shares with less conviction than bulls had hoped.

Political Tailwinds vs. Market Mechanics

For all the technical damage, the fundamental case for OHB remains largely intact. The company’s record order book, which stood at roughly €3.35 billion, continues to provide a cushion that few German technology firms can match. The structural story that drove the stock’s nearly 490 percent rally from the start of the year — soaring defense and space contracts, production capacity scaling, and exposure to NATO’s military buildup — has not been broken by the capital raise.

That narrative received fresh reinforcement in recent days. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reaffirmed plans to develop a domestic launch site for carrier rockets, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign spaceports. OHB’s subsidiary, the European Spaceport Company, is working on an offshore concept that would see small rockets launched from the North Sea. The German military has earmarked €35 billion for space-sector spending through 2027, including offensive satellite capabilities, and OHB is positioning itself as the system integrator for these programs.

Technical Crossroads

The immediate question for traders, however, is whether the 200-day moving average at €240.76 will hold. A decisive break below that level would confirm the bearish momentum of recent weeks and open the path to lower support levels. A bounce, by contrast, would signal that the fundamental story — record backlogs and defense growth — is winning out over short-term dilution concerns.

OHB SE at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

The relative strength index (RSI-14) stands at 33.4, approaching but not yet entering oversold territory. The annualized 30-day volatility of 80.32 percent reflects the frayed nerves in the market, with price swings more typical of cryptocurrencies than a mid-cap industrial group.

With a market capitalization of €4.84 billion, OHB remains a multiple of what it was worth at the start of the year, even after the correction from the May peak. The consolidation around the 200-day line looks less like the end of the growth story and more like a long-overdue breather following an extreme rally — provided the line holds. The removal of J.P. Morgan’s stabilizing hand means the market will now deliver its verdict without interference.
