Palantir's August 3 Earnings Test: Can Surging Commercial Revenue Bridge the Gap With a Skeptical Market?

Palantir Technologies has set the stage for what could be a defining moment in its recent history. The software company will report second-quarter results on August 3 after the closing bell, and the numbers on the table are nothing short of eye-popping — even by its own lofty standards. Yet for all the operational fireworks, the stock has been stuck in a rut. Shares closed at €116.60 on Wednesday, leaving the group with a year-to-date decline of 18.52% and a 35.22% gap from the 52-week high of €179.98 hit back in November 2025. The annualized 30-day volatility of 49.48% tells the story of a market that cannot make up its mind.
The engine driving Palantir’s top line is unmistakably its commercial business in the United States. Revenue from US commercial clients surged 133% in the first quarter to $595 million, a blistering pace that pushed the company’s Rule of 40 metric to an extraordinary 145%. Analysts now expect Q2 revenue of roughly $1.8 billion, an 80% year-over-year jump, while earnings per share are forecast to more than double to $0.35. Palantir itself has guided to a midpoint of $1.799 billion in revenue, with an adjusted operating margin of 59.2% and EPS of $0.28.
This growth is no accident of timing. The company’s Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) is moving beyond pilot projects into production-grade deployments across industries. CEO Alex Karp has framed the shift as a move away from what he calls "AI slop" toward controlled, auditable systems. A central pillar of that strategy is "Sovereign AI" — a model that lets governments and enterprises keep their data and models in isolated, secure environments. In late June, Palantir teamed up with Nvidia to launch an "Intelligent Engine" that deploys open Nemotron models inside network-isolated enclaves for US agencies. A binding agreement with Rackspace Technology followed in July, positioning the cloud provider as a preferred partner for Foundry and AIP deployments in healthcare, energy, and other regulated sectors.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Palantir?
Further evidence of deepening institutional trust comes from the US Small Business Administration. The SBA has expanded its use of Palantir software to root out fraud in pandemic relief programs, with 150,000 borrowers already suspended across five states and more than 560,000 suspicious cases referred to the Treasury Department, representing over $22 billion in potentially fraudulent activity. Additional commercial wins include partnerships with SNP, the insurer GNP Seguros, and the recent integration on AIP of xAI's Grok-4.5, OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 series, and Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 5 — along with new mass-installation and automation features.
Yet none of this has silenced the doubters. Michael Burry continues to hold a short position opened in autumn 2025, arguing the valuation is stretched beyond reason. Insider activity adds to the unease: director Alexander D. Moore filed notice on July 15 of a planned sale of 48,000 Class A shares worth about $6.42 million, following 32,000 shares sold in the prior three months for $4.28 million. According to Quiver Quantitative, insiders have sold 105 times recently without a single purchase. The company also reported $100,000 in second-quarter lobbying expenses focused on security and privacy issues.
Analysts are split along the same fault line. The consensus price target stands at €169.00 (approximately $183.12), with 20 buy ratings, 10 holds, and two sells. D.A. Davidson upgraded the stock to buy with a $175 target, while Jefferies remains wary, warning that current valuations assume what it calls a "heroic durability assumption" around growth rates. Simply Wall St projects revenue could hit $10.8 billion by 2028 with net income of $3.6 billion, implying a fair value of $185.70 per share, but such forecasts lean heavily on sustained commercial momentum.
For now, the stock sits 24.97% above its June low of €93.30, with a neutral RSI of 55.4. The market appears to be waiting for proof that the commercial segment can maintain triple-digit growth through year-end and convert marquee partnerships into lasting revenue. The August 3 report will provide the first major data point — and perhaps the clearest signal yet whether Palantir’s operational reality can finally narrow the gap with its reluctant share price.
