A deeply oversold reading on the relative strength index and the imminent closing of a US$3.5 million private placement gave Redwood AI shares a much-needed jolt on Monday. The stock climbed 6.36% to €1.25, pulling back from the 52-week low of €1.18 it had touched just two sessions earlier. Yet the rebound only partially masks a brutal stretch that has left the AI software company trading more than 81% below its April 28 peak of €6.66.

The bounce came as the company prepared to finalise a placement of 1,663,000 special warrants at US$2.11 apiece, with Maxim Group LLC acting as sole placement agent. A single US institutional investor is backing the offering, which is expected to close on July 20 subject to approval from the Canadian Securities Exchange. Redwood plans to use the proceeds for working capital and general corporate purposes.

In a parallel move that has drawn less attention, the company secured a spot in the CSE25 Index during the exchange’s quarterly rebalancing on July 2. The index groups the 25 largest CSE-listed names by market capitalisation and covers more than 75% of the Composite Index’s total value. Management saw the inclusion as a boost to visibility among institutional and retail investors tracking small-cap growth stories — though the subsequent slide in the stock price has tempered any immediate benefit.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Redwood AI?

Oversold metrics flash caution, not all-clear

At 21 points, Redwood’s 14-day relative strength index sits deep in oversold territory, where readings below 30 often precede short-term technical reversals. The Monday advance fits that pattern, but the stock’s 30-day volatility of roughly 83% (nearly 91% according to some measures) underscores just how fragile the recovery may be. A market capitalisation of about €68 million — a fraction of the value recorded in April — leaves little margin for error.

The company is also laying the groundwork for future capital management. It has filed a preliminary base shelf prospectus with Canadian securities regulators; once finalised, a supplement will govern the conversion of the special warrants into tradable shares. That process could introduce additional dilution, a factor that weighed on the stock throughout the recent sell-off.

AI focus cuts across pharma and cybersecurity

Redwood develops AI-powered software for chemistry and drug development as well as cybersecurity applications. Its platform integrates machine learning models with cheminformatics and operational data to streamline synthesis planning, process optimisation and supply chain decisions — aiming to reduce time, cost and risk in pharmaceutical and chemical R&D.

Whether Monday’s uptick marks the start of a sustained recovery hinges on two things: the clean closing of the private placement and how the market prices in the new shares. With annualised volatility approaching 90%, sharp moves in either direction remain the norm rather than the exception.
