Redwood AI’s Marketing Blitz and DTC Clearance Can’t Stop 48-Hour Halving

The rally never materialised. Redwood AI’s shares crashed 33% on Friday morning to C$3.00, wiping out more than half the company’s market capitalisation in just two days. The sell-off came despite a flurry of announcements aimed at opening the US capital markets and attracting new investors.

Trading volume exploded to 224,604 shares by 9:41 a.m. EDT, nearly five times the 20-day average of 47,404. On the Canadian Securities Exchange, where 35.9 million shares are outstanding, the stock touched a low of C$3.00 against a range of C$3.00 to C$4.40. It opened at C$3.49 and never recovered. Just three days earlier, on Tuesday, the close had been C$6.50, putting the market cap at roughly C$233 million. At Friday’s low, that figure had shrunk to about C$108 million.

The brutal decline stands in stark contrast to the company’s recent efforts to broaden its investor base. On May 26, Redwood AI announced that its shares had been cleared for electronic settlement through the Depository Trust Company (DTC), a prerequisite for most US brokers and banks to trade the stock efficiently. CEO Louis Dron said the DTC eligibility would improve access for American investors and speed up settlement. The stock already trades on the OTCQB market under the ticker RDWCF.

That same day, Redwood hired InvestorBrandNetwork (IBN) for a marketing and communications campaign costing US$114,000 in cash, with no equity component. The campaign runs through September 2026 or until the budget is exhausted and includes editorial content, newsletters, social media and podcasts. IBN’s engagement comes on top of a separate campaign with MCS Market Communication Service GmbH that began in April, budgeted at C$900,000 and running until July 2026. Combined, the two initiatives represent over a million dollars in paid investor communications — a substantial outlay for a small-cap company.

The DTC clearance was supposed to be a structural catalyst. Instead, it coincided with a wave of selling that overwhelmed thin order books. The volume data suggests real pressure: the fivefold spike against the 20-day average indicates more than just a few retail exits. Meanwhile, the company has 6.5 million securities reserved for issuance, a potential dilution factor that traders may be pricing in.

May also brought a collaboration with Resilience Biosciences, where Redwood is applying its AI-powered workflows to develop non-opioid drug candidates. And Innovate BC named Redwood one of the 25 most promising investment candidates in British Columbia. None of that positive news stopped the stock from falling.

Redwood AI has not explained Friday’s trading activity. The company has no press release addressing the rout. The infrastructure is in place — DTC clearance, paid campaigns, a steady stream of announcements — but infrastructure alone does not create buyers. Whether the stock stabilises or continues to slide will depend on whether new demand emerges to absorb the selling pressure, or whether more holders decide to exit.
