The XRP Paradox: Record Network Traffic and Ripple’s Africa Pivot Can’t Shake the Token Loose From $1.20

XRP Ledger hits 770K daily transactions, Ripple backs Africa's Flutterwave, and ETFs see inflows, yet XRP price remains 15% down and below key moving average.

XRP Network Activity vs Price: Record Transactions, Institutional Growth, but Token Stuck at $1.21

XRP investors are watching two fundamentally different movies on the same screen. On one side, the XRP Ledger just processed 769,646 transactions on June 16 — the second straight day above 750,000 operations — while Ripple deepens its roots in Africa with a stake in the continent’s largest fintech. On the other, the token itself sits near $1.21, roughly a third lower than where it started the year and trapped below its 50-day moving average of $1.32.

The divergence between on-chain activity and market price has rarely been wider. Of those nearly 770,000 transactions, around 427,000 were pure payment settlements, reflecting real-world use of the blockchain for transfers rather than speculative trading. A significant portion of the remaining volume came from decentralized exchange activity within the ledger itself, pointing to rising demand for liquidity inside the XRPL ecosystem. Every single one of those transactions incurs a fee in XRP, which the protocol burns entirely — a mechanical supply drain that grows more pronounced as network usage climbs.

Ripple’s business development, meanwhile, is adding institutional depth to that on-chain momentum. The company joined the Series E round of Flutterwave, Africa’s largest fintech valued at roughly $3.2 billion. Flutterwave plans to integrate Ripple’s stablecoin RLUSD, its payments infrastructure, and the XRP Ledger to speed up settlement, improve liquidity, and simplify compliance for digital transactions. The move taps into a region where eight countries — led by South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya — have now enacted crypto-specific regulations. Trident Digital Tech Holdings is simultaneously building a $500 million XRP treasury to finance cross-border payments across the continent.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?

The institutional appetite doesn’t stop there. Spot XRP ETFs have pulled in $1.43 billion in cumulative net inflows since launching in November 2025, with May setting a monthly record of roughly $132 million. In the week through June 12, XRP exchange-traded products attracted $10.7 million in fresh money — while equivalent products for Bitcoin and Ethereum saw outflows. The numbers suggest that professional money is rotating into XRP even as retail sentiment remains tepid.

Yet the token stubbornly refuses to follow its fundamentals higher. After shedding more than 15% in the past month, XRP has been oscillating in a tight range near $1.20, unable to reclaim the $1.30 level that has acted as resistance since early June. The 50-day moving average is now a technical ceiling, and traders are watching to see whether the sustained network boom can eventually pull price higher — or whether macro headwinds will keep the token pinned.

The broader crypto market offers little tailwind. Bitcoin is consolidating near $64,775 ahead of the Federal Reserve’s rate decision, and combined exchange volumes across all cryptocurrencies fell 3.45% in May to $4.41 trillion, the lowest since September 2024. In that environment, even a record week for XRP on-chain activity and a fresh institutional narrative out of Africa may not be enough to break the spell — unless the Fed delivers the liquidity boost the entire risk-asset complex is waiting for.
