UBS Cuts Fees on Climate-Focused International Equity ETF

Investors seeking exposure to developed markets outside the United States through an environmental lens now have a more cost-effective option. UBS Asset Management has reduced the total expense ratio for its MSCI World ex USA Climate Paris Aligned UCITS ETF, streamlining the fund's name in the process. This move highlights the ongoing fee competition within the sustainable index fund arena.
A More Affordable Sustainable Strategy
The fund’s total expense ratio (TER) has been lowered from 0.15% to 0.12% annually. This price adjustment enhances the competitiveness of this physically replicated portfolio, which launched in March 2021, against comparable ESG investment products. The ETF tracks the MSCI World ex USA Climate Paris Aligned PAB Index, a benchmark designed to target companies contributing actively to economic decarbonization.
Regulatory Alignment and Portfolio Construction
Classified under Article 8 of the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), the fund promotes specific environmental and social characteristics. Its underlying index employs a strict selection methodology. Firms involved in controversial activities—such as thermal coal, oil and gas, tobacco, and contentious weapons—are systematically excluded. Conversely, the index methodology increases weights for companies that are seizing opportunities related to climate change or are effectively minimizing transition risks.
Investors are advised to monitor evolving EU regulations and MSCI’s index methodology closely. Because the ETF follows a “Paris Aligned Benchmark” (PAB), any tightening of EU sustainable finance rules or new climate science findings will lead to direct adjustments in the portfolio holdings. Such methodological shifts routinely influence sector allocations and the specific stocks held within the fund.
Positioning in a Competitive Market
The fee reduction to 0.12% establishes this UBS fund as one of the most economical choices for investors intentionally excluding US equities from their portfolio while pursuing global climate objectives. Portfolio management for the ETF continues to be handled by UBS’s specialized teams based in London and Ireland.
