UBS Holds Firm on €36.20 Target as Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile US Readies Largest-Ever Tariff Move
Published on 07/14/2026 at 20:53 | Redaktion boerse-global.deShares of Deutsche Telekom slipped 0.37% on Tuesday to €26.63, extending a pattern of volatility that has seen the stock lose 13% over the past twelve months and sit 22.5% below its 52-week high of €34.35 reached in late February. Yet analysts at UBS remain decidedly bullish, reiterating a buy rating with a price target of €36.20 — a level that would mark a 36% climb from current prices and eclipse even the year’s peak.
The gap between the stock’s recent slump and UBS’s optimism is stark. After tumbling to a 52-week low of €23.54 on June 30, the shares have clawed back some ground, posting a 3.2% gain over the past week. The 50- and 200-day moving averages, at €27.36 and €28.74 respectively, still sit above the current price, signalling a technically challenged short-term trend. A relative strength index of 52.2 points to neutral territory, while 30-day annualized volatility of 31.4% underscores the erratic trading environment.
The near-term catalyst for both the stock and the bull case is the most aggressive pricing overhaul in T-Mobile US history. Starting July 14, the U.S. subsidiary will migrate eight million customers from legacy plans to pricier “Experience” tiers, hiking monthly bills by up to $6 per line and $4 on average. This marks the third price increase from T-Mobile US this year alone, and rivals AT&T and Verizon have already launched win-back campaigns targeting potential defectors. For Deutsche Telekom, which depends heavily on its U.S. arm, the migration is a double-edged sword: higher average revenue per user versus the risk of accelerated churn. Investors will get their first reading on the impact when T-Mobile US reports quarterly results on July 23, followed by Deutsche Telekom’s own numbers on August 6.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Deutsche Telekom?
Beyond the U.S. consumer business, the German telecom giant is tightening its grip on next-generation infrastructure. Deutsche Telekom has been chosen to coordinate PETRUS2, an EU-funded project preparing cross-border quantum key distribution (QKD) networks under the CEF and IRIS2 programs. Partnering with Thales, Airbus, and SES, the initiative aims to build a sovereign, eavesdrop-proof communications backbone for Europe. The Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) is simultaneously leading a standardization project called HarmoniQCI. Separately, the company has switched on a private 5G campus network at the Container Terminal Altenwerder in Hamburg, developed with Ericsson and HHLA, which has been supporting automated terminal operations since late May.
On the consumer side, Deutsche Telekom has issued a seasonal warning about a spike in smartphone thefts during the holiday travel period. Scammers often pose as “finders” and send phishing texts aimed at stealing Apple ID or Google account credentials. The company advises activating Lost Mode, blocking the SIM card, and never entering login details via links. Customers can report suspicious messages by forwarding them to shortcode 7726.
For shareholders, the weeks ahead are a waiting game. The success of T-Mobile US’s price migration will determine whether the stock can sustain its recent recovery — and whether UBS’s €36.20 target looks ambitious or achievable. The trading range between the June low of €23.54 and the analyst target of €36.20 leaves plenty of room for either outcome.
