More than 7,000 workplace accidents — 658 of them fatal — were recorded across Vietnam in 2025, according to figures presented at a June 26 safety council meeting in Dong Nai province. The provincial tally alone reached 1,334 incidents with 24 deaths. Officials blame employers in roughly 60% of fatal cases, with worker negligence accounting for the remaining 40%.

The data landed as Vietnam accelerates a shift from treating illness to preventing it, anchored by Resolution 72-NQ/TW. The new approach is already visible in technology: at a June 28 workers’ health promotion day in Can Tho, over 1,100 employees received free medical check-ups backed by artificial intelligence diagnostics. Results were logged directly into digital health records through the VNeID system.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the Centre for Health Communication kicked off a preventive health programme in June with a community run that drew 5,000 participants. Samsung Electronics Vietnam has partnered with the programme to promote digital health monitoring. Between July and September, workshops targeting professionals and university students are scheduled in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Employers are also being held to stricter standards. At the Dong Nai dialogue conference — attended by representatives from more than 160 companies — the Raffineriebetreiber BSR reported that it now conducts over 1,700 daily safety briefings. The company specifically warns workers about risks such as fatigue from late-night sports events.

New hospital capacity adds another layer. On June 26, a 1,000-bed facility of Bach Mai Hospital opened in Ninh Binh province. The clinic is designed to relieve pressure on central hospitals and ensure consistent care quality across the Red River Delta.

Social security systems are adapting too. From July 1, 2026, revised health insurance rules take effect, expanding outpatient services and adjusting contribution rates. In Ha Tinh province, all payments are to become cashless. Separately, the Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed a pension reform that would round up contribution months — three months counting as a quarter. The draft is due for discussion in October 2026, with a potential launch on March 1, 2027.

Trade union reports from the first half of 2026 underline the wider effort: from constructing worker housing to tens of thousands of additional health screens in factories.
