VINCORION's Self-Financed Growth Meets a Skeptical Market

The mechatronics specialist VINCORION is navigating a curious post-IPO landscape. While its order book exceeds one billion euros and a major NATO contract secures work until 2030, its stock trades at a significant discount to defense sector peers. This valuation gap persists even as the company reports robust growth, with revenue climbing 18% to EUR 240.3 million in the 2025 fiscal year and operating profit surging 64% to EUR 33.7 million.
A critical support mechanism for the share price is set to disappear. The Greenshoe option held by major shareholder STAR Capital expires on April 23, marking the official end of the post-listing stabilization period. This could also see STAR Capital's voting rights fall permanently below an absolute majority. The stock, which touched a low of EUR 15.34 after its March debut, had recently recovered toward the EUR 17 mark ahead of this milestone.
The company's growth strategy is notably self-reliant. Its IPO served exclusively as an exit for STAR Capital, with no fresh capital flowing into VINCORION's coffers. Consequently, all expansion must be funded from internal cash flow, which stood at a solid EUR 38 million. This internal financing model is underpinned by a lucrative aftermarket business, responsible for over 55% of total revenue and providing stable margins.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying VINCORION?
Simultaneously, VINCORION is demonstrating operational progress. Since April 19, it has been conducting field tests for its SENTINEL energy systems, an EU project funded with nearly EUR 40 million from the European Defence Fund. The company is supplying 50-kilowatt generator and energy storage modules, with initial tests run in partnership with the University of the Bundeswehr Munich. Follow-up tests in the Netherlands and Aruba are designed to prove the systems under extreme climatic conditions, positioning them as a potential gateway to future NATO procurement programs.
Major US institutional investors have placed a significant bet on this trajectory. Fidelity, Invesco, and T. Rowe Price provided binding purchase commitments totalling EUR 105 million during the IPO and are now listed as shareholders. Their presence is balanced by a lock-up agreement preventing STAR Capital from larger share disposals until autumn 2026.
The market's skepticism is quantified in valuation metrics. Based on 2025 results, VINCORION trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of approximately 46. This contrasts sharply with sector leader Rheinmetall, which commands a multiple exceeding 100 times earnings. Management aims to justify a re-rating with ambitious targets, including a net profit target of nearly EUR 20 million for the coming year—a figure that would represent a doubling.
The first major test of this standalone financial and operational story arrives in early May. On May 7, VINCORION will release its inaugural quarterly report as a public company. This report is seen as the first real stress test for its growth narrative, requiring management to substantiate its full-year outlook, which targets revenue of up to EUR 320 million. The framework for future revenue is already in place, notably through a recent NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) contract to modernize PATRIOT power supply systems, initially worth EUR 60 million.
