Voestalpine Divests BÖHLER Profil Unit to U.S. Firm Kadant

Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine has agreed to sell its subsidiary BÖHLER Profil. The buyer is U.S.-based industrial firm Kadant Inc., which intends to incorporate the custom specialty profiles business into its own Industrial Processing segment. The transaction is slated for completion during the first quarter of 2026, pending the necessary regulatory approvals in Austria.

This divestment comes at a period of significant strain for the European steel sector. The industry is contending with a combination of cheap Asian imports, subdued demand, and elevated energy costs. In this context, shedding non-core assets can be viewed as a strategic move to sharpen focus on more profitable primary operations.

Voestalpine is scheduled to report its figures for the third quarter of the 2025/26 fiscal year on February 11, 2026. Investors will gain clearer insight into the company's operational performance within this difficult market environment at that time.

Kadant Acquires a Long-Standing Supplier

The voestalpine BÖHLER Profil GmbH & Co KG reported revenue of €51.5 million for the fiscal year ending March 2025 and employs approximately 150 people. The company manufactures specialty profiles and industrial knives and has supplied Kadant for several years. Following the acquisition, the operation will be renamed Kadant Profil GmbH & Co KG.

Kadant plans to fund the purchase primarily through debt. The company has announced it will provide further details on the deal during a conference call scheduled for February 3, 2026.
