2G Energy heads toward its third-quarter update with the sell side split down the middle and a pair of insider transactions offering a quiet counterpoint to a first half that barely registered on the profit line.

The combined heat and power specialist reported revenue of 136.03 million EUR for the first six months of 2026, down from 169.87 million EUR a year earlier, alongside EBIT of just 0.8 million EUR. That works out to an EBIT margin of 0.6% — a figure that has become the flashpoint in an unusually wide divergence of analyst opinion.

Two Houses, Two Very Different Yardsticks

SMC Research moved first on Monday, lifting its rating from "Buy" to "Strong Buy" and nudging its price target from 80.00 to 82.00 EUR. Analyst Holger Steffen pointed to the order backlog and to scope for both growth and margin expansion, dismissing concerns that the AI data-centre boom might prove short-lived as overdone.

Parmantier & Cie. occupies the opposite corner. The French research house reiterated its "Sell" recommendation on 15 October with a target of 39.00 EUR, calculating that 2G would need to generate roughly 98% of its forecast full-year EBIT in the second half alone.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying 2G Energy?

The gap between the two positions is less about whether demand exists than about how reliably orders convert into earnings. Parmantier's caution rests on the timing concentration of the profit plan rather than on any doubt about the top line.

What's Behind the Weak First Half

Parmantier attributed the pressure to one-off IT project costs, higher depreciation and an early build-out of headcount. That diagnosis comes from the research note itself — it accounts for the soft start but does not by itself demonstrate that a recovery followed.

Management, for its part, has reaffirmed full-year 2026 guidance of 440–490 million EUR in revenue and an EBIT margin of 9.5–10.5%. Hitting that band would require a profitability step-up far beyond anything the first six months delivered.

Insiders Step In

Separately, SHH Spring Hunter Holdings GmbH disclosed several share purchases dated 16 October. The entity is closely associated with supervisory board member Dr. Lukas Lenz. A day earlier, Friedrich Pehle reported a purchase through a joint account held with Daniela Lohmann-Pehle.

2G Energy at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Such filings are a welcome side-signal but no substitute for hard operating evidence. The real test arrives on 23 November, when 2G Energy is scheduled to publish revenue and EBIT for the third quarter of 2026.

What the November Print Must Show

Both numbers will matter. Revenue growth on its own would leave Parmantier's earnings question unanswered; a stronger profit contribution, by contrast, would lend weight to SMC's margin thesis. For valuation purposes, the strength of the order book counts for little until it shows up in earnings — and that is precisely what the 23 November release will begin to settle.
