Arafura Rare Earths Sits Just Above 52-Week Low Despite Nolans Groundbreaking and Expanded Traxys Offtake
Published on 10/16/2026 at 06:50 | Editorial boerse-global.deArafura Rare Earths closed Thursday at EUR 0.0884, down 5.2% on the day, as a sector-wide retreat in Australian critical minerals names dragged the stock back toward its 52-week low of EUR 0.0840. No company-specific announcement drove the decline; instead, the developer was caught in a broad sell-off that hit rare earths and lithium producers alike.
The scale of that pressure was evident across the peer group. Lynas fell 6.6%, while Pilbara Minerals shed 6.3%, with market watchers pointing to a general pullback from resources exposure and risk assets. Australia's mining sector as a whole dropped nearly 4%, weighed down by stubbornly high energy costs and elevated interest rates on corporate financing — two factors that have capped valuations across the industry for months.
Construction Underway at Nolans
The pullback comes at a pivotal operational moment. On October 8, Arafura held the official groundbreaking ceremony at its Nolans project in Australia's Northern Territory, marking the formal handover from project development to on-site construction. Site preparation work had already begun in September, and the heavier earthworks are scheduled for the fourth quarter as the company lays the groundwork for future production infrastructure.
For Arafura, the transition is a significant milestone. Building the processing facilities is central to its ambition of becoming an independent supplier of critical minerals. Even so, the capital intensity of a project of this scale is drawing close scrutiny, particularly with energy and credit costs making large industrial builds a tougher proposition.

Traxys Contract Grows to 850 Tonnes
Alongside the construction start, Arafura has been locking in commercial terms for its future output. The company signed a binding offtake agreement with Traxys North America covering NdPr oxide from Nolans, with annual volumes set to ramp up to as much as 850 tonnes once full production capacity is reached.
That represents a substantial increase over an earlier non-binding heads of agreement for 500 tonnes, lifting the guaranteed sales base by roughly 70%. The deal also covers the purchase of associated heavy rare earths. Pricing for the deliveries is tied to an independent global seaborne trade index.
Market Backdrop Keeps Sentiment Subdued
Despite the contractual progress and the shift into the construction phase, the mood around the stock remains cautious. With the latest decline, the shares are trading only 5.2% above their 52-week low, a technically testing position after months in which weak conditions for critical minerals have kept a lid on the valuation.
For now, investors appear focused less on Arafura's operational milestones and more on the macroeconomic risks hanging over the wider sector — a dynamic that has left the developer's recent achievements overshadowed by broader market caution.
