ING economists expect ASML to account for 1.6% of Dutch value added in 2026, up from 1.3% a year earlier, according to a Reuters report published yesterday. The figure measures the chip-equipment maker's direct contribution to the national economy — not its revenue guidance, and certainly not its market valuation. Still, the projected uptick offers shareholders a macroeconomic frame around a company whose own forecasts have just been raised.

That distinction matters. The ING number is an expectation, not a booked annual result, and it tracks a different quantity than corporate revenue. For investors, the hard numbers remain ASML's own disclosures: what the business has already delivered and what management expects to deliver next.

A strong quarter behind the upgraded outlook

ASML reported third-quarter revenue of EUR 11.662 billion and a gross margin of 57.5%, alongside net income of EUR 4.960 billion. The results, released on 14 October, came with a raised full-year sales forecast — meaning the anticipated rise in economic weight now travels alongside a brighter revenue outlook.

For the fourth quarter, the Veldhoven-based group guided to revenue of EUR 14.2 billion to EUR 15.2 billion. That range is a projection, not revenue already on the books. The full-year 2026 target now stands at EUR 44 billion to EUR 45 billion. Whether the closing quarter delivers against those raised expectations is the test that lies ahead.

Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying ASML Holding?

Vietnam's slipped timeline is not a lost order

High demand across the industry does not mean every announced fab converts into business for ASML. Reuters reported yesterday that Vietnam will likely miss its 2027 target for pilot production at its first semiconductor plant, and that no agreement to purchase ASML equipment has yet been reached. Industrial expansion plans and signed contracts are two different things — a distinction worth keeping in mind.

The report concerns one specific project. It confirms neither a cancellation at ASML nor any broad softening of demand. Equally, without a completed purchase agreement, no secured revenue contribution can be inferred from the Vietnamese plan.

Set against that is management's assessment from roughly two weeks ago: planned delivery capacity for 2027 and 2028 will not fully cover customer demand, and the company is therefore examining a further capacity expansion for 2028. The two statements can coexist. A single fab can fall behind schedule while orders from other customers exceed available capacity. For now, the Vietnam news points to project-specific risk, not a turnaround flagged by management.

ASML Holding at a turning point? This analysis reveals what investors need to know now.

Terafab adds color, not contracts

Elon Musk offered another example of uneven project trajectories about a week ago. According to Bloomberg, he said ASML and other suppliers had accelerated equipment deliveries for the Terafab project of Tesla and SpaceX, with volume chip production targeted for the third or fourth quarter of 2028. That date describes a planned production start for the project — not a confirmed revenue milestone for ASML. The raised company forecast remains the firmer reference point for investors than the scheduling of any single customer project.

What ultimately counts is less whether every announced fab holds to its original timeline, and more whether ASML can convert aggregate expected demand into shipments and sales. On that score, the company's reported figures and its upgraded guidance carry more weight than the mixed signals coming from individual factory plans.
