Ballard Power Lays Out 2027–2028 Margin Path as GeoPura Deployments and a Cut Target Round Out the Story
Published on 10/25/2026 at 08:20 | Editorial boerse-global.deBallard Power Systems used its Ballard Forum on Thursday to sketch out the shape of its next two fiscal years, and the headline number is growth: an average annual revenue increase of 30% at the corporate level across the coming two business years. Alongside that top-line ambition, the fuel-cell maker attached concrete margin and profitability milestones — all of them targets, not figures already booked.
Margins Climbing Through 2028
The gross margin roadmap runs in two steps. For 2027, Ballard is aiming for more than 20%; the following year the goal rises to above 25%. On the earnings side, the company intends to reach break-even on an adjusted EBITDA basis by the end of 2027, then hold full-year profitability on that same measure in 2028. The two profit objectives differ both in their time frame and in how they are phrased — one a threshold to cross, the other a full-year state to sustain.
GeoPura Units Power Summer Events
Operational news accompanied the financial targets. On Wednesday, Ballard reported deployments by its recently acquired subsidiary GeoPura, which supplied hydrogen-based power to events during the summer 2026 season. Among the sites named were Boomtown and the Edinburgh Summer Sessions, as well as the Solheim Cup and the Genesis Scottish Open. At Boomtown, GeoPura's hydrogen power units — built around Ballard fuel cells — kept the HYDRO stage running.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying Ballard Power?
To expand its fleet of Hydrogen Power Units, Ballard held out investments of between $80 million and $120 million at the Forum. The funding is to come through secured financing at a loan-to-value ratio of more than 80%.
Susquehanna Trims Target, Keeps Neutral Stance
Analyst sentiment took a more cautious turn in the same stretch. According to media reports, Susquehanna lowered its price target for Ballard on October 14 to $2.00 from $3.00, while reaffirming its neutral rating. The move changed the target, not the verdict.
Shares slipped 1.1% on Friday to close at €1.32, a move that followed the Thursday presentation of the financial goals at the Forum.
November 16 Call Sets the Next Marker
The next scheduled checkpoint on the business is November 16, 2026, when Ballard will discuss its third-quarter 2026 operating results on a conference call. The company announced the date on October 16; the call is set to begin at 8 a.m. Pacific time.
